All of them. NVA is the place to play.

Makes sense I was confused as I am new to soccer. Figured this was a strategy since FVU is normally a strong club and do not have to rely on cup with making the playoffs

Mostly right, but this has nothing to do with a local club merger, league cup is part of every conference, not just the mid-Atlantic.
Why would a team not try to win a cup game? Or was that a parent playing down their losses to experimentation?
FVU coaches know what really matters.

Because of team mergers in the Mid Atlantic the cup games will give the winner an automatic spot to the playoffs. There will be 4 groups. BEACH, VDA, and FVU are in one group. NVA, Richmond, and Arlington are in another group. Then the NC teams will follow the same format. Brackets aren't out but I imagine the winner of VA will play the winner of NC for that automatic bid.

But saying the scores in the 2010s game came from PWSI players is pointless as it took a team to build the plays out from the back and for FVU parents to say the reason for the weekend losses is due to the merger or missing players is horrible as well. This was cup games and the teams will meet again in league play.
Based on scores, FVU coaches were probably testing new tactics and experimenting with lineups. VDA chest thumping is not new.
