So you believe woman who discovers a catastrophic condition at 17 weeks for either herself or her fetus should be forced to carry it to 40 weeks? Is that what you are saying? Because that’s what I hear you say.
Who is discovering a ‘catastrophic’ condition at 17 weeks?
If you’ve had a baby in the last twenty years, you’d have known that all ‘catastrophic’ diagnoses are discoverable in the first 15 weeks now with current, widely available prenatal care.
Such a simpleton.
My friend has an abortion at 24 weeks because they spent weeks trying to get more tests and finding someone who could help them. But the situation was tragic and the fetus hopelessly deformed, missing much of its brain.
Then your friend is an idiot. Or lied to you. Or isn’t real. Every free clinic in America has access to these tests. They are affordable and ubiquitous.

Widely available? There are places where hospitals are closing the OB departments rather than take the legal risks
— how are you defining “widely available” testing that requires a specialist?

She sounds like a smart woman but how has it taken until this year for her to realize that the Republican Party hates women? I mean if we want to talk “messaging,” that’s the message I’ve gotten from them my whole life.

This is a lie.
Women in Europe can still get abortions after 15 weeks for health issues of mom or fetus.
And 15 weeks is enough time for the rest in Europe because of their socialized healthcare.

Very, very few conservatives believe that it's murder in all cases. And most are willing to compromise and make a 12 or 16 week total amnesty period to have abortions.
The leftists here are being clear with you. They will not compromise at all. They want abortion to be completely unregulated and consider any limitations for any reason at all to be a violation of women's rights. Women can and should be allowed to choose to abort for any reason at all, up til the point of birth, in their view. Take it or leave it. I used to be a democrat and eventually, I couldn't any more. On this and many other issues, I have moral lines that I'm not willing to cross.
Citation needed that “most” conservative politicians are willing to offer 16 week “amnesty”, because you seem to have made that up.
Here you go. Look at the Republican response graph. Only 20ish % respond that abortion should be illegal in all cases.

Democrats attack Trump over alleged 16 week national law Trump is reportedly seeking-- meaning Democrats believe that 16 weeks is the compromise point being mulled by Republicans: https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/02/16/democrats-trump-abortion-report/
Those are Republican voters responding to a poll. Again, which conservative politicians are willing to offer 16 week “amnesty”?
Google this yourself. The right has been attempting to rally support for a 16 week ban since Roe fell, but it's dead in the water bc the left is unwilling to make any concessions that would limit abortion.

If you want to get your fallopian tubes in a knot over the Supreme Court weighing in on misoprostol, I might agree with you, but not on the 15 weeks issue.
