Paul Ellis does not care about anything but money coming into his club. I know for a fact parents has voiced many concerns and nothing ever changes. He doesn't care about parents or players. He is willing to lose the parents and players that have a heart for the game and know what this club is doing isn't anything to get their kid to play their best.

He doesn't care about you and other parents because you are probably annoying and an idiot. He does care about the player and the game. Do you even know the talent he's seen? Your child probably couldn't even hold a water bottle in comparison to the talent he's had in the past. That's probably why you're on here complaining. Shut up. https://www.vadcsoccerhof.org/hall-of-fame-inductees/hall-of-fame-bios/paul-ellis#:~:text=Paul%20Ellis%20is%20currently%20the,levels%20of%20the%20youth%20game.

Nonsense. He came up with a whole plan to create a separate organization to keep travel profits separate from the original rec leagues they were associated with, designated himself in charge, and pays himself a large salary. (They don't even get their own permits, they use CYA fields which means fewer fields for the CYA rec teams.) He cares about cash money ducats and nothing else. If he truly cared about the game and the player, he would let exceptional poor kids play for free (Valor has very stingy financial aid). They would send weak players back to the rec leagues instead of taking their money and be honest with parents.

THIS. U9 boys team has a gold, white, black, silver and blue. We have watched some of these games in passing and they are painful. And it isnt the kids fault. these are rec league players paying travel dues just because. If he was in it for the players these teams wouldnt exist.

I believe the U10 girls have 5 or 6 teams as well.

The U11 girls only have 2 teams and the second team is very weak.

That's putting it nicely. They were in 6th division last season. Though, to their credit, they did bump up to 5th division for the spring after beating 4th/5th teams from other clubs.

In their defense a very close friend of mine has a kid on the u11 gold and these girls have not had proper training since entering the travel soccer program. Honestly I would consider these girls self taught. If you knew half of the shenanigans these players and parents are dealing with you would be shocked. We are on our third travel team with my daughter and while some of it is regular club growing pains they really did a disservice to these girls.

That's what this website is for! Tell us!

Seems to be a theme with Valor and CYA.

They lost a lot of girls in the 2nd and 3 teams from the previous season. So they had to scrape together what was left and form a pretty lame 2nd team made up of leftovers.

4 are listed on NCSL. It's apparently a bit of a crap shoot with mismatched kids skill wise all around. Some good kids at the top (still can't compete against other top clubs) but also some girls that have no business being on the first and second team. I feel bad for the kids sitting on a team of 12 not playing equal amounts just to say they are on a higher team.

Having the whole set up for filming a rec game seems excessive but its a free country. I can't believe someone even complained about that.

Who knows? These rec coaches are egomaniacs. Filming games, threatening to call the cops, using travel players in rec tournaments. This crap just doesn't happen in travel.

So did the police get called? I’m still stunned that anyone would call the cops for filming a rec game.

No it was an empty threat from a small petty man.

Tryout registration!? The season hasn't even started yet. Or barely. Its like you are paying for half a year.

We basically pay for 1 season. Winter program is nonexistent and spring will also be a wash. The key takeaway is learn from us, and stay away.

Welcome to soccer in the DMV. Tryouts start in February for some clubs and others March 1.

In my son's age group there is plenty of movement between teams and people from outside absolutely attended tryouts and made all of the teams last year. My neighbor with a daughter is quite happy too. I told her about this thread and she was shocked. We both have younger players. You never know, but I would be surprised if anyone on our team is not returning.

Which age group has lots of movement between teams? They move lots of kids down?

This business has a million teams. There will be some good coaches, some bad coaches, happy customers, pissed off customers.

I have never seen such a long discussion on here with so many negatives on just one particular club.

I think I might know which age group and team your son is on, and if so I agree! I checked my email inbox and last year Valor sent the initial email in mid March, so not that much earlier this year. Looks like they are transitioning to new registration software this year, so makes sense that they would want to give more time to work out any issues. They probably won’t announce dates and coaches until much later. Biggest challenge is trying to make tryouts for current club and others that may be happening at same time! We aren’t unhappy per se but do want to see who the coaches are next year and make sure we’re getting the best fit for our money.

Not my first rodeo, so a few words of advice. Talk to your coach at whatever club you're playing for and see where your child stands. Valor is doing player evaluations now, and if you want to move up ask the coach what your kid needs to be doing. What are their weaknesses? Their strengths? This is the time to be talking to coaches if you think your player should be on a different team, no matter what club you are at now. Our coach was happy to talk about all of this with us.
