Why are you so worked up about this? None of these people are believable. We don't have the full story and everyone's side should be taken with a grain of salt. Collin has accused his dad of abuse the claims were unfounded. He's a troubled teen who has problems with the truth.

She says more, but doesn't say any more about what he did or why she never visited him. She keeps calling him disturbed.

Let's say he attacked her with a knife and/or molested one of the other kids. What would another mom do? Institution... sure. But never visit him and refuse to tell dad where he is? That's the weirdest part.

Also, wouldn't the terms of the divorce include a parenting plan that gives him rights to know where his kids live?

We forget that mental illness is connected not only to attachment, environmemtal and individual psychological factors but to genetic influences as well and quite honestly none of these children hit the genetic (personality) lottery with either of these parents. Both had personality problems and their circumstances made them worse

It seems likely that multiple things can be true. Kate and/or Jon may have been abusive, he may have been primed biologically for attachment issues, he may have serious pathology that did not respond to lower levels of care, Jon may have provided more support and structure that has helped him grow, while also being gratified by demeaning his former wife and using his attachment to his son defensively to cope with his anger and shame regarding his other children being estranged. The son may be growing but still be quite ill. There were and are biological, psychological, social and familial factors at play and there is obviously a lot of pain and personality issues to go around. Whenever the picture is this sad and unrelenting, the causes are typically multi determined. We don't have all the details.

So Kate is claiming that when he was 12, Collin attacked her with a weapon and the emergency room doctors admitted him to the psychiatric facility? I thought ER doctors would call a psychiatrist, if they suspect someone is in mental health crisis, and then the psychiatrist decides what needs to be done about the patient.

Why does no one actually say what he did? Surely there are receipts or an example can be given of how violent he is. The fact that Mady & Kate are being so vague makes me feel like they're BS-ing...at least to some extent.

Bravo DCUM there there is not much we can all agree upon but seems pretty clear everyone thinks she is horrible. She also should not financially benefit from these kids-no more tv shows for her!!

I can believe that he acted violently towards her and not others. I can believe she acted violently towards him bc she hated his rejection and it made her feel like a failure which she knew she failed at emotionally attaching. It’s good he is with his dad and has a less chaotic environment and that his dad is laid back. It gives him a chance to ease into building a relationship and possibly moving forward emotionally.

I think the problems go right back to the beginning. This was a high order multiple birth. The babies were preemies. They probably have developmental issues and other special needs amongst them. Like the McCaughey (sp?) septuplets, 2 of the kids have cerebral palsy. There are known risks and complications, so the deck was stacked against them from the beginning.

That's a lot of guessing and assuming. Her message was clear. She and some of the siblings identify as LGBTQ+ and Collin has made hateful comments and been violent. If there's not a good look its for Collin. Has he denied it yet? Maybe that's who he is. Not a good look for him or his supporters.

Still lots questions, because none of them have seen him since he was 12, and they apparently haven't spoken since he was institutionalized. Is Mady referring to things he said at age 12? Nobody is pretending anyone is perfect. But Mady made some pretty damning allegations. If they aren't true they why isn't Collin speaking out and threatening to sue? And I think it's clear Mady isn't only talking about race so Colleen's support isn't necessarily relevant. People just seem to want to discount any evidence that challenges their preconceived notion of Kate = evil, Collin = sweet angel. There is a lot we probably don't know and the older the kids get the more we'll find out.

They are mother and child - not two equally situated parties. *Many* people on her have acknowledged that Collin likely had challenging behaviors. That doesn’t justify abuse. Unless someone can demonstrate to me that he is seriously dangerous or mentally ill, the facts still show that Kate purposefully got rid of him by sending him to long-term inpatient therapy that was all out of proportion with his condition- and then purposefully isolated him there by refusing to visit and keeping the child’s own father away. We have documented evidence of Kate rejecting and mistreating Collin from a young age. This was the culmination. Whatever supposed insults or fights he engaged in recently with Mady have nothing to do with this history.

You're not going to get someone's medical history as evidence. The family seems pretty tight lipped about what issues Collin has. He has been kicked out of schools, accepted into an institution, and accused of violence and hateful statements, those are also facts. If Kate was protecting the kids from him, it's hard to fault that. How many survivors of abuse wished their parents did that? We don't have the full story, but you're pretending that you somehow have all the facts from a scripted reality show.

You don’t protect your other kids by sending one child inappropriately to an institution, isolating him, and keeping him away from his other parent. Collin may have needed supports but Kate chose a harsh and ostracizing approach.

Actually, sometimes you do have to do that. None of us will ever know if that was the case here.

NP. Then why did she hide him from his father. Nobody has been able to answer this question. If Kate was doing the right thing by her son when she institutionalized him, why keep hit a secret from the other parent?

Who treats their child this way? Between her and the Duggar’s I am turned off from watching these sort of shows. Moving forward these networks need to hire personal to watch family abuse. I think in the last the focus was on making sure the kids money is safe and they are not abused by staff but they are missing the kids being taken advantage of mentally etc from family.
