I’m terribly confused. The ivies have always been FOR the wealthy. Harvard’s application used to amount to: who’s your dad? Anyone who just discovered this isn’t living in reality.

Unhooked middle class, upper middle class, white or Asian students from a public high school make up less than 33% of Harvard's freshman class.

I’m not sure exactly where the kids of Katie Holmes, Sarah Jessica Parker, Emily Blunt (if they’re back in NYC now), Drew Barrymore, Tina Fey etc go to school in NYC, but presumably top NYC privates. And I bet they’re far from the wealthiest parents of kids at those schools when you take into account NYC finance parents. Unlike DC privates that have a lot of civil servants making $180k/year.

Katie Holmes - Avenues - eh
Sarah Jessica Parker - City and Country - eh
Emily Blunt - don't know
Blake Lively - Village Community School - eh
Drew Barrymore - Brearley - amazing
Tina Fewy. - Brearley - amazing

SJP's oldest attended Ethical Culture Fieldston. Lots of downtown folks have their kids at Village Community then pivot uptown or to the Hill schools for MS or US.

Does anyone have positive or negative feedback on Village Community School?

Our College Counselor indicated there was a shift this year.

A lot of kids are being admitted from smaller, less well-known private schools across the US in an effort to diversify the UMC student base at top 25 private schools. Some boarding schools in particular have struggled this year with quantity of T25 admits

Can anyone else confirm?

Can confirm. Acceptances at my kid's school in the middle of nowhere this year include 4 Ivies and multiple T10s. My kid's teacher said she's his first Ivy admit in his 30+ years of teaching.

Wow.
That’s fascinating.
So a new type of private school kid = diversity.

I like it.

Exactly! The Ivies and top schools are all talk and full of it.

There is a reason they raced to settle the need blind lawsuits. Having to actually give up development admits will never happen

In addition to having some very connected parents (like most NYC privates), Dalton tends to select exceptionally verbal, intellectually curious students. Also, you all are overlooking the Dalton education. Teaching is phenomenal, especially in math and stem. Dalton destroys the competition in math and robotics competition and the chess team is amazing. Gary Kasparov is a Dalton parent.

Yeah. And Jeffrey Epstein taught there.

No, the concept is introduce *some* diverse students who will then have access to these elite peers and the education they've always been able to secure (and vice versa, maybe). Eliminate that original group and all is for naught.

Many of the "diverse" peers at Ivies are just normal kids these high schools as well. Either well-off and connected URM families or kids that got to the private school through Prep for Prep or similar. It's a crummy system. I have no idea why so many people are driven to defend it.

+1 IMO, it's like the nobility giving crumbs to the masses, and letting them hobnob with truly elite. How noble of them.

How about every person be judged by their efforts rather than who their parents were?

why would you automatically assume that just because these kids have billionaire parents, they exerted less effort than other non-billionaire kids who got into these schools?
