Annnnnd what if they don't want to go?
This.
Why don’t we address the issues at a community level instead of turn our backs on neighbors/community members.

NIMBY

They're high, strung out, drunk, schizo, and more. They refuse help, handouts, or any type of opportunity to be better.
There's a reason they're homeless.
You think you can reason with these people with your ultimatum? That's cute.

Average cost of an acre of land in Texas: Less than $4,000
Average cost of an acre of land in Washington DC: over $4,000,000
How does it make any sense to send them to a place that costs 1,000x more?
How do you "send" people in DC to DC?
Huh? Nobody said anything about sending people in DC to DC.
The thread is about not sending people in Texas to DC, and sending people in DC to someplace where they can be housed and receive the services they need in a much more cost-effective way.
How about we don't send anybody anywhere? Provide services to people where they are.

We could have an incentives for people to become social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, caregivers, teachers and if you get free or heavily reduced college tuition, you work with the veteran, underserved youth and/or homeless population for 3-4 years.
A mental health crisis or traumatic event is why a large proportion of people fall into homelessness. Help people before they fall into that circumstance. There are not enough mental healthcare providers in the United States. Somehow going into a career where you care for and heal people (except for going to medical school to be a surgeon) is not highly valued in our society.

Their options should be: go, be put in prison or find market-rate housing yourself.
Sometimes DCUM is like lifting a big rock and seeing all of the gross, scary people that live in your society.
No, we can’t force poor people to go live in another state because you find them inconvenient.
