As a past Gilman parent, I am satisfied with the school's response so far.
I take a lot of the 'advice' offered on this thread as an attempt to find out what Gilman is doing, and I just am not interested in replying to that. For sure, my heart is heavy. It must be so incredibly difficult to come forward with this abuse.
If you are on an iOS device, when the paywall pops up switch to reader mode.
Yes, as a current Gilman parent, I agree that they are doing everything I would want them to do at this point. They acted quickly as soon as something was actually known, and I think if there was any systemic failure, it was of too much trust, not suppression, or secrecy. Heartbreaking.
but what about... what they did or failed to do BEFORE getting to this point? it's easy to turn on the tears after the fact. what did they do to keep these kids safe before the news broke and the arrest was made? was it adequate?

That is different than saying he assaulted children while babysitting. What he did was really horrible but let’s just wait for the investigation to finish.
Care to share the link to the report you are referring to?
As far as we now know, the male teacher was raping the boys.

“The sex acts allegedly occurred while Bendann was housesitting for families, according to the charges.”
Something sounds fishy from the above reporter. This is what should have been written:
Christopher Bendann sexually assaulted the students while babysitting for school families, according to the charges.
He also house sat for families, so I’d go with what is actually in the charging documents.

Is that really what you took out of this post?Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:I think the point they are making is - are you going to pull your kid out of school, when a bad situation arises at school, not let him play sports if a coach is arrested? Unfortunately, it’s everywhere and you seem like you want people to say that the school knew an active pedofile was working for them and they hid it. I don’t think they knew, let’s be seriousAnonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:I send my kids here and it’s a wonderful school. Diverse and friendly kids, wonderful caring teachers, amazing education. I can’t say enough good things. The administration did not do enough to protect these kids against this teacher, that’s for sure. Will I be pulling my kids out of this school? No. Just like many other current families, we feel the school will now be even more vigilant with this stuff. Do I feel like there is some sort of sexual abuse culture that’s part of the school? absolutely not. I know many of the teachers on a personal level, they are moms and dads who have their own kids at this school and who are horrified by Chris bendann. Don’t get me wrong anyone that suspected or knew about the abuse and did nothing should be punished. Private school culture in general is a place where the teachers form close and special relationships with each kid, and that’s what we love about private school. This teacher took advantage of that and the school failed to set boundaries. Seems like going forward they will be way more vigilant. It seems like all the rich parents on the board will see to it.
Bless you. Most parents felt just like you last time sex abuse teachers got caught. How exactly do you imagine the school will now be more vigilant?
You're rude and crude. And repetitive.
Most of us concerned parents think school pedophiles are rude and crude, and yes, repetitive when allowed.
No, teacher pedophiles are not in every school. That’s a myth.
