There are obviously always going to be issues with this, but you have no idea about what has been transpiring over the last few years.

Has there never been a time when D’s could have passed a law? That can’t be true.
There were two months between when Al Franken was finally seated and when Ted Kennedy had to step down due to brain cancer, so pardon us for not solving every effing problem that the Republicans have caused since 1980 during that time.
Try more like ten months between Franken being seated in April of 2009 and January of 2010 when Brown was seated to replace Kirk (D) who had been appointed to replace Kennedy.
The Senate didn’t vote on either on an abortion bill or the House climate bill during that time. I wonder why? Perhaps they had members on their own side that didn’t want to vote on those things?

My “health care issue” with giving birth occurred when I was diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy. We had been trying for years and desperately wanted that to be a healthy pregnancy. I begged the doctor to find a way to make it work.
An acquaintance’s “health care issue” with giving birth occurred when her (very much wanted, planned for, IVF) baby was diagnosed with a fatal condition that also impacted her health and future ability to carry another pregnancy. She found out during a routine ultrasound at 19 weeks.
A college friend’s health care issue” with giving birth was the additional mental trauma that would result from being forced to carry to term a pregnancy that was caused by rape. A rape she could only remember in flashbacks, because the guy had slipped rohypnol into her drink at a party. She was suicidal already before she even learned about the pregnancy. Thank God for Planned Parenthood.

Can I make you think about specifically which times in the last fifty years that the House had a liberal Democratic majority with enough votes to pass something like this, while simultaneously also having a 60-vote filibuster-proof majority to pass it on the Senate side, with a conference committee in agreement? Between April 2009 and January 2010, the Democrats had a filibuster proof 60 vote margin in the Senate. It was when they passed the Affordable Care Act without a single Republican vote. That’s not counting pro-choice Republicans (and there are some). They could have passed an abortion bill, if they had wanted to do so. The reality is that there are always red and purple state Democrats who do not want to vote on abortion as an issue.
