Must be the clubs you are involved in. Our kid's team is outstanding and the coaching is excellent. Of course, it a top team nationally and gets invited to the best national invitation-only tournaments. I agree it was painful in the younger years when not all of the players are focused and fully committed, but its what our kid wanted to pursue so we supported it. It paid off due to a combo of talent and serious hard work by our kid.
