January 24 Update: We are factoring in rollout of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine starting in late February/early March. In the past week, over 1 million doses were administered per day. Given no unforeseen supply issue from Pfizer/Moderna, we now estimate that the general public can receive the vaccine by April, and over 60% of the US adult population will be fully vaccinated by June. We also estimate that 200 million doses will be administered in the first 100 days of the new presidential administration, roughly double the “100 million shots in 100 days” goal. Our timeline for a “return to normal” remains unchanged (June/July 2021).

I know not that many people have been vaccinated yet, but the ones who have in the first round were the most exposed (healthcare workers) and the most vulnerable (nursing home residents, elderly). Look at the 7 day average. The weekends are usually low and those numbers are reported on Monday. B

The nation is trending down. Fairfax is trending down too.

Is it possible we are reaching herd immunity or the virus is weaker? I can’t believe how many people I know who have recently had very mild cases of covid. Almost everyone I know has had it whereas early on in the pandemic I didn’t know anyone.

I also posted on another thread that my parent is at a nursing home and covid rapidly spread through the nursing home. Very few patients got seriously ill and most had asymptomatic cases. This has raised my eyebrows.

What "raises eyebrows" is how little you value the lives of your fellow Americans when more than 410,000 died in less than a year, in you do not care. When literally a 9/11 death count happens every day for week after week, and you don't care, that raises MY eyebrows. When we have lost more Americans to COVID in less than a year than we lost in the entirety of WWII and that doesn't impact you, that raises my eyebrows.

To be fair, I truly don't think that PP's post meant that he/she doesn't "value lives of fellow Americans". Everyone has a right to scrutinize public policy and leadership without being accused of being uncaring. It is our responsibility and duty as citizens. Not saying I agree that the public was manipulated (as PP inferred), but I really think we should try hard in this thread to keep emotions in check/try to be upbeat. This thread has always been so pleasant, I hope we can keep it that way.

Christmas spike in terms of hospitalizations/deaths is 4-5 weeks post exposure, so we're right in the midst of it.

That makes sense. I was disappointed that he was sandbagging the 1M per day number as a goal when we were ALREADY doing that. Didn't make any sense to me. 1.5m is a solid number to strive for.
