A lot more boys play nationwide so there’s a bigger talent pool to draw from. For girls lax, the hotbeds are relatively more dominant since there aren’t as many strong programs for girls outside here, Baltimore, LI, and CNY. Also a lot more D1 programs for girls because many colleges can’t field boys teams due to Title 9 issues.

My guess is that over time DCE and NL getting stronger will reduce the number of players from the area playing for Crabs and FCA. Also will hurt Madlax a little since they are no longer the only game in town. Not sure DCE and NL affects VLC as much because they draw from a different pool. But there are enough good players in the area to have four or five good teams especially if people stop driving to Baltimore.

I suspect that maybe some 2019 kids — in all clubs — will play D 3 and those kids wouldn’t have committed yet. 2018 on vlc has a number (5 that I know of) of kids going to NESCAC and ODAC schools.

I have no idea whether "10-ish" recruits for VLC 2019 is an accurate prediction. But assuming it is, and recognizing the obvious that 10 is half of 20, would not that number still be pretty damn impressive? Maybe we are jaded being in the DMV, but how many clubs outside of our area can boast of such numbers?

3 observations cause me some concern that VLC may be losing a little bit of luster. First, even if it is true that 2019 has 3 commits to great schools, none are lax powerhouses like Hop or UVA, and the numbers are low even keeping in mind the new recruitment rules.
Second, they lost Langley. One of main builders of program, Phenomenal coach and great advocate during recruitment.
Third, the rosters seem less filled with private school kids. I think this is great for he development of lacrosse in the region. But the fact remains that for the foreseeable future the center of high school lacrosse - where the best players gravitate and largest pool of future recruits - are in the privates. The rise of DCExpress and Next Level across the river may account for this.
My son knows a lot of kids on that 2019 team and though they lack superstars, they are solid. But agreed not a high profile team like Madlax 2019. Losing Langley is a loss, but the two guys running it have been there from the beginning and I'm told they are doing a great job.

Not the "dummy" poster, but yeah, I'm pretty sure at least in the IAC this is pretty common. Off the top of my head, I can think of football and soccer players for EHS, St Albans, Prep, Bullis and SSSA who are starters in these fall sports, whose "main" sport is lacrosse. Not sure about the winter sports, but I'd guess there must be a few wrestlers and maybe a basketball player or two who play lax in the spring.
