Modify option 4: Orginally WJ in option 4 has 77% capacity and Wheaton has 120%
Put entire Garrett Park in Woodward.
Put entire Viers Mill in WJ.
This will bring Wheaton below 100% and bring WJ closer to 100%. It will also balance the FARMS in Woodward and WJ instead of WJ becoming another Whitman.
Modifying option 4 solves capacity in all schools without creating huge gap in economic diversity between WJ and Woodward. WJ and Woodward are around half mile of each other so it won't create issue with travel time for anyone to go to one vs other.

And should probably abandon the idea of having Whitman at capacity.

on a bus with multiple stops and not using 495 it's easily 45 minutes. Blair isn't quite in dtss.

And it's not necessary. CC is the CC is B-CC. B-CC is walkable for those in CC.
I'll buy that the school bus trip is 45 minutes, not 65 minutes as some are demanding low income kids do if they care about their futures
the Whitman suggestion arose because involuntary busing won't equalize FARMS rates because people will segregate (because they always do). the question became how can you increase the FARMS rate at Whitman, given it is so far away, without involuntary busing. the suggestion was to allow kids to voluntarily lottery in. the challenge is of course the length of the bus ride.
Why are you making proposals that only impact kids in other communities? Maybe stfu with your paternalistic bs
yikes why don't you care about poor kids' education?
I do. This proposal is not practical and will harm both the kids that get bussed and the kids who can't swing the commute, which would be significantly longer than any commute proposed in Option 3.
ok then what proposal that does not involve involutarily busing kids 45 min will increase the FARMS rate at Whitman?
I don't care about increasing the farms rate at Whitman. People who live there chose it willingly. I would love to decrease the farms rates at DCC schools but that's not going to happen in any significant way, so I definitely don't want to bus half of the most academically inclined kids out of the DCC.
I don't think it will be more than 25-30 FARMS kids who will opt for it. That's like 3-4 kids per school and that's being optimistic. Entire DCC has way more than 50 academically inclined kids.
So you think MCPS should pay for a bus to pick up and drive 30 kids from across the DCC to Whitman to assuage the white guilt of Whitman families?
This isn’t for Whitman. Also MCPS would already be busing kids from rosemary hills to Whitman under option 3. Do you also object to that?
Do you not see the difference trip lengths? I can't with you.
45 minutes is a long ride. But somehow it’s now ok bc at least it isn’t 65? That’s not logistically consistent.

Nah, MCPS should do it to provide oppurtunity to FARMS kids to attend schools having less than 20% FARMS. It will help some FARMS kids a lot who are in position to opt for it.
If it can be done for magnet then why not for FARMS kids. I am not from Whitman.
