Why would she have drowned after being saved from a scary situation like that? It seems very unlikely she just went back into the water. It still seems so fishy to me. I am basing this on direct quotes from him.

I don’t put much faith in his blackout drunk recollection of events. I believe they both got into trouble in the water and he had all he could do to save himself. I think the lifeguard in him probably wishes and convinced himself he saved her. But he didn’t. He was also a much stronger and skilled swimmer. It’s highly likely she didn’t know how to swim.

Regardless of what you think of him, you should want the rule of law to prevail. Riibe is entitled to a presumption of innocence. The family said there was no evidence of foul play (and prosecutors have not produced any evidence) and Riibe was never named a suspect.

In the Dominican Republic, the law upholds the principle of "presumption of innocence," meaning a person is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law:
Presumption of Innocence: The Dominican Republic's legal system, like many others, adheres to the principle that a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
48-Hour Rule: The constitution stipulates that any person detained must be brought before a competent judicial authority within 48 hours of their arrest. [Riibe was afforded less rights than if he'd been arrested]
Habeas Corpus: If a person is detained for more than 48 hours without being charged, they are entitled to file a motion of habeas corpus, and the judge can order their release.

He should never have been detained and his passport confiscated beyond 48 hours - and certainly not 2 weeks. [And we recently learned DR held his friend similarly - and there is actual video evidence that the friend came back to the hotel at the same time as the 5 girlfriends]

You’re not paying attention to the details. He got them to safety in knee-deep water. Then he started puking. Once he was done puking, he said he didn’t see her and figured she walked up back to her room. Every summer even in Ocean City, there’s a drowning and often it’s a knee deep water. It is not beyond the realm of possibility that another wave knocked her over, especially in her inebriated state. You are thinking about this from the perspective of a sober person and try to think about it from the perspective of two very inebriated individuals. Their decision-making often does not make sense.

If she drowned in knee deep water (totally possible I agree) where is the body? It would still be there. It’s like some of you have never actually been in the ocean.

No one said her literal time of death was in the deep water, it’s obvious to anyone who has been in the ocean that she could’ve been knocked down by another wave or pulled out by a riptide while in knee-deep water.

+1 A lot of posters here don't understand about ocean waters---quick moving, unexpected riptides and also the prevalence of sharks.

How would you know? my posts are based on CNN articles, statements from the lawyer, and journalists that covered the hearing, etc. The info isn’t hard to find. Why are you fighting it? Google is your friend here.

Many discrepancies in even those reported stories was the point. A poster or few seems like like they actually know. Not sure if this is a point in which the former POI could clarify if he wanted per his attorney.

There really aren't discrepancies. You just seem super argumentative, so stay confused I guess.

Google is YOUR friend. There were discrepancies.

DP here. I didn’t see any discrepancies and I took his statements from quotes of his released by police and his attorneys. Rather than discrepancies though, his statement was just illogical. How did she drown AFTER he saved her? If she didn’t drown, where is she?

How can her parents just think she drowned if he says he saved her from drowning? She then tried to drown herself again? What?

Oh geez. People, this particular post here if you look above is about the passport. Damn get organized with your posts.
