J&J is coming!

This vaccine has live virus correct? So it won’t be safe for pregnant women? I’m really hoping to get vaccinated before I conceive (getting older and already put things on hold b/c of COVID).

It has a live virus but not covid. It's a relatively harmless adenovirus modified to produce covid spike proteins.

Thanks for responding! Did not realize it won’t be live covid.

Looks like there are actually a few other vaccines on the horizon that only need 1 dose and have easier storage requirements. This could be good news for picking up steam with vaccinations.

Also, from the CDC site, which I think is the source for the US numbers:
>40M vaccine doses distributed in the US, so the pipeline remains full

2.4M doses given (shots in arm) at long-term care facilities. Estimated population of these facilities is 3m and they have accounted for ~40% of deaths.
These numbers have ramped up really fast over the past week or so.
--this number might be an overestimate of the coverage of the 3m people because it includes vaccines to workers in those facilities too
--but it might be an underestimate because it only includes shots given through the pharmacy program

The Black community has been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19, and also suffers with maternal and infant mortality rates. These health disparities and injustices must be addressed and remedies.

But here is one COVID patient--a pregnant woman--who received extraordinary care. In turn, she opened her heart and her family to her nurse:

I think this kind of thing is great news. I know we're supplied constrained now, but that will change over time. And Walmart knows how to scale as well as reach a lot of the community (including those that wouldn't bother making vaccination appointments, going to the hospital, etc.) Maryland is included so hopefully Virginia, which is always seems a step behind on vaccination, follows suit.

"Walmart stores in Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey, South Carolina and Texas will offer COVID-19 vaccinations starting next week, the retailer said Friday.

The vaccines will be administered at Walmart pharmacies to groups that state health officials have deemed most in need of inoculation. In Texas, for example, only health care workers, nursing home residents and staff, people 65 and older, or people 16 and older with chronic illnesses such as sickle cell anemia, can get the shot for now. In New Jersey, those eligible for a vaccine include health care workers, nursing home residents and staff, people 65 and older, first responders, and people 16 and older with chronic illnesses."

I cannot overstate how hurtful it is, as a person of color, to see this thread flourish with news that is not inclusive of minorities. At all.

I hope it's ok to post this request here.

Thank you all

I'm not sure I follow - not trying to be critical, just want to understand what you're seeking. Are you looking for folks to post (more) uplifting stories about minorities in general?

I agree that I don't understand this concern. This thread welcomes all "good, uplifting and hopeful news" without restriction. It doesn't focus on any single group, nor would it turn aside good news about minority group results.

So please contribute what you think is lacking! I hope and believe it would be as warmly welcomed as all other good news.

I'm another one who doesn't understand this. I'm confused how the news we're sharing of vaccine roll-outs, improved therapeutics, etc. is not inclusive of minorities? This information is applicable to everyone.

That PP posted the same complaint about not including minorities a few pages ago. I am thinking they may be a troll.

I still can’t understand how the success of a vaccine that can be taken by all people over 16 regardless of race isn’t a victory for POC too. PP is just trying to stir the pot.

Great! Yeah, key figures like Fauci and company are already talking about EUA soon. Gotta be next week. Let’s hope we get some nice Monday news!

YES! If I remember correctly, the good news about Pfizer and Moderna both came on Mondays.
