The point is that Tufts isn't stellar or stand-out in just about any of the spaces it inhabits. It's middlingly decent, and a fine school to be proud of, but people here are really trying to hawk it as a superior institution and sticking their noses up at other schools that most would consider to be equal to Tufts.

CMU is elite in many disciplines. It is a good size school for those who want "mid size" and is a fantastic campus in a good urban setting. I am not sure if Tufts has as many elite programs - I am only partially familiar with the two schools, but this is the first time I have seen CMU compared, so I would be interested in more detail.
Yeah I'm sorry but the vast majority of Americans (and non-Americans, too) would say Carnegie Mellon is a tier above Tufts.
