For a senior member of the royal family, a big funeral is a 200,000 person funeral tableau with 2,000+ police deployed to contain crowds.
He didn't want that.
He did intend for all of his blood relatives, including the Greek ones he hasn't seen in years, to be able to attend. A small funeral in that regard would have been at the very minimum the 100+ relatives, immediate (including great-grandchildren) and distant.
Here is Zara and Harry at their great-grandmother's funeral. Also foreign royals like the Kings and Queens of Sweden, Spain, and Norway.

We have no idea what he wanted. The RP will determine what each will do or get based on protocol and money. And always say it’s what the person wanted.

The Crown is a work of fiction. There are much better, real references in Philip’s many biographies.

I remember when my father, a widower, learned that his closest friend had died. That friend was the last of my father's circle of close friends and relatives who were close in age. A light went out of his eyes, and he was never the same after that.

Every year the public is going to mourn Phillip's death on this date. EVERY. YEAR. I just...wow.
#Diana’sRevenge
I mean...really. This is insane.
It really isn’t a big deal. No one is going to mourn his death every year. More like, oh, PP died on this day.
For real. And it’s not like people publicly celebrate Charles and Camillas wedding anniversary.
Charles and Camilla likely celebrate their anniversary.
Now it will be clouded by his father’s death.
You wouldn’t want your anniversary clouded by a death.
#Diana’sRevenge
Good grief. You are mental. Diana had no revenge! He was going to die sooner or later! And Charles and Camila can celebrate in other ways!
Old Phillip was loyal to the end -
Intriguingly, among the family photographs of children and grandchildren he always kept on his office desk at Windsor, was one of Prince Charles and Princess Diana taken on their wedding day.
I thought Philip hated Diana.
Apparently not as much as the tabloid reporters wanted everyone to believe. Makes sense considering its their job to make the Prince of Wales/heir look good no matter if he's a lowdown, cheating cad who emotionally abused a 19-year-old.
Philip didn’t hate Diana.
She excelled at her job. The people loved her. She made Charles relevant. She quickly produced an heir and a spare. She added value to the BRF.
Philip was likely disappointed by Charles. Charles dragged his feet with Camilla and marriage in general. He couldn’t hide his cheating. He couldn’t keep the peace with his wife. Philip blamed Charles for that, not Diana.
Can you imagine your father keeping a wedding photo of you and your ex on his desk? Speaks volumes about how he felt about Charles.
Philip never complained. That’s widely known. I’m sure he hated whiners. And Charles is the prince of whiners. No wonder Harry is the way he is.
I see it so differently. Harry has been able to live the life he wants/desires, not the life that was dictated to him. Charles caved to royal BS and lived unhappily for so many years.
But Philip was an honorable man who did his duty.
Can you imagine how irritated he was with Charles for shirking his duty and whining about things? Philip and the Queen dedicated their lives to service. They managed the media bs and lack of freedom. Why would Philip admire Charles and Harry?
