,^ in that same article, the doctor goes on to say that it's not medically worrisome the menstruation response, but it is really really bad that we don't track the changes so women don't feel nervous or overwhelmed or scared by their menstrual cycle after vaccine.
It's just a little bit more of sexism in the medical space.

Forgive me if this has already been covered, but does anyone have any idea by what mechanism the vaccine would be causing menstrual issues? Like your immune response affecting hormone levels or something like that?
Had my first shot of Pfizer two weeks ago, period came 6 days early, fwiw. More cramping than usual but nothing crazy.

I'll ask this on the thread about teens and side effects, too, but am interested in whether anyone's teen daughter had period-related side effects. I have a 17-year-old who had Pfizer and is on the pill-- she doesn't get periods on the pill and has had no period-related side effects to either dose. But her 14-year-old sister will hopefully get the Pfizer vaccination soon and has rather heavy periods. Interested to hear how very young women have done with menstrual side effects.

Got second dose yesterday morning. Period started today a full 1.5 weeks early (very abnormal for me!). Cramps all night last night plus chills alternating with fever.
Glad I’m done with these vaccines - side effects for #2 have been tough!

OK, so this is my first full period since vaccine. I was on the last day of my period when I had second dose. I am on a light dose of the pill due to peri-menopausal bleeding and have been for maybe 5 years. My period always, always starts on the same day in the morning like clockwork and I take my pill consistently as prescribed. This time for the first time, my period came a day earlier and is heavier than usual. NOT a big deal at all. No suffering. I am pro-vaccine and am thrilled I got even with all the side effects with the 2nd. Just reporting.

41 year old female. My period was one day early, 2 1/2 weeks after my second Pfizer dose. Normal amount of bleeding, but a bit more cramping than normal during the few days of my period. I also had more ovulation pain this cycle, and needed to take some ibuprofen for it, which I've had to do a few other times within the past 15 years.

I had the first dose of pfizer almost 3 weeks ago and got my period on time yesterday, and so far it seems normal. I have my second shot tomorrow (day 3 of period), so I'll see if that seems to affect anything or not.

Yeah, I’m one of the prolonged bleeders. (Finally let up after 54 days and an extended course of Provera, now just hoping it goes back to some semblance of normalcy.) It began the day after my first shot. I’ve had two ultrasounds showing no explanation for the bleeding. My doctor has no explanation and I didn’t even mention the vaccine on my second visit because I felt like she was dismissive at my first appointment.
For the record, I am happy to be fully vaccinated. I guess that’s one less thing to worry about. This whole experience has just made me realize that, whether we’re talking about vaccines or not, there’s a whole lot about menstruation and women’s health that is just swept away as a mystery that no one cares to try to figure out.

PS: Of course potential side effects should be tracked, and they are. We also know that menstrual irregularities can happen with any physical or mental stress (even small surgeries, running a marathon, anxiety, divorce, worrying about dying), and they STILL should be tracked.

I posted earlier that I had post-menopausal bleeding that started the day after my second Moderna. Doctor wanted to follow up, so I had an ultrasound and endometrial biopsy, both negative. The doctor did not seem to think the shot had anything to do with it, but he also didn't have any good explanation for why I had a random and heavy period right afterwards. Age 51.

50, periods are still quite regular, but bleeding just started about 10 days early, a week after getting 1st Pfizer dose.
Not remotely anti-vaxx and eager to get my second dose, but clearly there's a thing here that should be monitored.

Period didn't start in the days after the first shot like it usually would have. Even at my age, I'm still fairly regular. Three weeks later, still no period. I quietly wondered to myself what was going on. Thought I was starting menopause, to be honest. This must be "the change"...
Then period started the day of my second shot. Had a heavy period. Guess I'm not alone, even at my age!
