Absolutely. Dumb moves by NCAA. At least spread the pain evenly. It'll hit colleges down the road. Many smaller colleges rely heavily on athletes in enrollments.

I feel badly for 22s and 23s. There will be fewer roster spots on top College programs.

With NCAA tweaking eligibility rules for current college players due to covid, wonder if there will be even more holdbacks now. Someone will make money.

Since travel lacrosse is grade based, one year age differences are common, for better or worse. Two year differences, the infamous "double holdbacks," are much less common but they do happen. It's not fair to criticize the sportsmanship of a team because a family of a player held back their son. The other 20 families on the team (or, in this case, the other 26 families) have no control over such decisions.

The culture of sportsmanship, good or bad, is set by the head coach for each individual team, and then the players and families follow. It is set for a program as a whole. So MadLax may have worse sportsmanship at the 2028 level than BCL, but at 2027 it could be the opposite.

I have seen up close the ML 2028 Capital team a couple times. There was a ton of screaming, including from parents. Parents yelling at kids and refs. Coaches too of course.

Not to say that’s necessarily bad, but I’m honestly wondering if that’s the norm for ML or it’s because that’s Cabell’s team. Or maybe they just happen to be an extra-intense group?

The Lacrosse Hall of Fame is filled with coaches who coached their kids at the rec, high school, and college levels. Some dad coaches aren't great. Some professional coaches aren't great. It's always a case by case thing. But what's great about Looneys, BLC, and ML is: families have a choice! Nobody is forced to play for a program they don't like. If you have a problem with one team, give another one a try. CM is a dad coach for some teams and a professional one for others, but he cares about all the kids. If he didn't, he wouldn't be successful.[/quote]

Perhaps, but the BLC coach we are talking about is not in the hall of fame, and the way that MadLax is running the 2027 teams is not doing him any favors to get there.

True- but even if a dad coach is great, there’s always going to be the possibility (or at least the appearance) of favoritism/preferential treatment. Which is fine in Rec, where you’re generally just thankful a parent wants to help out. When you’re paying a lot for travel, it can be a big problem.
