I don't think St Alban's athletic program has changed much at all. What's changed is that the rest of the IAC has gotten better through emphasis, outreach (recruiting), facilities, coaches, etc.

Bullis was a doormat for decade, but no longer. Landon and then Landon and Prep once dominated lacrosse rarely losing games except to one another. That's no longer true.

St. Alban's continues to do what it has always done at the same level. I doubt they want to change or that they have the institutional will to change.

Stop. these are student athletes and STA plays solid lacrosse.. There's enough teams in DC or Baltimore if your kid's team - or you to be specific - needs high-level competition.

No athletic "*recruitment" by the STA Athletic Department at all? (*Recruitment as defined and allowed by the IAC rules)

If your observation is correct, STA ought to seriously consider moving down a level from the IAC to the MAC.

Because the rest of the IAC seems to be increasing it's emphasis on Athletic success.

Prep is replacing a perfectly good football/lacrosse field with a complete new stadium. They aren't doing that envisioning third place finishes.

I have an incoming 9th grader at STA and it is not a group heavy on athletes of any type from what I can tell. They went with brains over brawn.

I agree for the most part, STA is not competing with Landon, Prep or Bullis for students. But that has nothing to do with STA being an Episcopal school. The crowd that sends their sons to STA also frequently consider Sidwell, Maret, etc.

Of course Catholics are the dominant group at Prep, which competes primarily with Gonzaga and even St. John's for the portion of the students who could reasonably commute to Rockville Pike.

Misguided comparison. You presume that those families attended and played lax at STA just to get into those colleges. That's not the case. Families most always choose STA for the education it provides.

I have not seen such lopsided losses in my 3 years of following IAC lacrosse. It must be soul sucking to go through this. On the other hand I was at the schools lacrosse senior day and I was seriously impressed by the college destinations. I 100% think the lowest ranked school announced was a NESCAC school and it was high NESCAC at that. I was also amused and maybe even sympathetic when the STA crowd roared with approval for a simple clear or well excuted play resulting in a shot, missed mind you, but a shot on goal. Take your victories where you find them.

STA really should consider joining the MAC.

Its going to take a ton of institutional support to build up their athletics.

Even their baseball and soccer programs are not the same as they once were.

How much recruiting is STA going to do this year? I imagine the lacrosse head coach is going to be working his Next Level pipeline hard, not to mention stealing kids from other clubs. STA is down in lacrosse, baseball, football, and soccer among others. I predict lots of recruiting going on this year. Question is are they going to be successful? What blue-chip recruit wants to play for a team at the bottom of the IAC?
