Oh, it may in fact be beautifully decorated, but it's virtually impossible to live in a home with someone with OCD/control issues, and the environment be anything close to "lovely".

Instead of showing an ounce of compassion or empathy for what this pp might have experienced growing up with a mother with food/control issues, you automatically go on the defensive (once again) and absolutely REFUSE to consider any other perspective other than your extreme need for control.

I truly hope you don't have children, because having an extremly controlling & domineering parent is so damaging, it will cause extreme resentment in your children. I bet you've never even considered how damaging this dynamic is to a child, because your need for control trumps everyone else's feelings.

I can't imagine what it's like to grow up in home where you're either too scared or not comfortable enough to go into the kitchen on your own.
No doubt they are always on the lookout & have to sneak snacks when you're not looking and hide the evidence of it in their rooms... sounds like a real pleasant environment.

Well this thread was super entertaining. Some of you guys have some really control freak relatives. My parents have some food mischegas but at least witholding food isn't one of them.

OMG I stayed in a country house with the sheet crazy. She expected us to get up, wait for her to get up (because no touching the coffee maker) get the sheets ready, grab a bite then commence to do chores. Heavy chores. And no dinner until 10 pm. Our kids were very very hungry.
It was crazy and although We had known the husband for 20 years staying with the new wife was loony tunes. I gave it 2 tries and then no more.
