I found narrative value in June coming out of a month’s worth of psychological (and low key physical) torture a stronger, better person with new resolve. She hasn’t given up on the idea of fighting back.

She went from thinking it better that Gilead babies die rather than growing up there, to resolving to get more of them out to lead lives of value elsewhere. I think the “Heaven is a Place on Earth” delirium was her reacquainting herself with the prospect of doing something real against Gilead in the here and now.

The most current episode was horrible. I couldn’t watch it. It seemed like 95% of it was June staring in the camera with just a few words here and there.

OMG, this show is like watching paint dry, can we just move along already! Too much emphasis on June and pointless details. Too much "Ooh, baby, do you know what that’s worth?" Another episode where June does a bunch of stuff that would get anyone else killed and is "saved" again.

I wish they would've addressed the situation at home with her commander and the discussion with Lydia about missing the ceremony given June was in the hospital for over a month. I was honestly wondering how it would be addressed and if the commander would visit her in the hospital or what but nothing!

And now, I guess we are back to Serena and Lydia being sympathetic to June. Back and forth. Just spinning wheels, no real movement.

Season One Writers, where are you?

Even though I fast forwarded through some surgical scenes and a few close ups, I liked this episode. Seems like she finally has recentered herself and has a purpose.

I’m a midwife and this show never gets birth right at all. They clearly don’t even bother to consult with an OB or midwife. They could still listen to fetal heart tones with a fetoscope, and it also seems like they’d make an exception (like they do for cars) to use a doppler to listen as well. And, when a baby is born with low heart rate or respiratory effort, you try to resuscitate it. You don’t say, “oh well, this baby looks dead but I’m not even going to check it’s heartbeat to be sure.” Also, a cord around the neck is dramatic but not really a common reason for a baby to do poorly.

Whenever I watch the behind the episodes on Hulu, the directors are so far up Elisabeth Moss’ behind that they’re skewed to what makes good storytelling.

My friend is in editing in LA and when I’ve visited with people from his industry, they think the most out there ideas are artistic and meaningful. It’s ridiculous. I love film and art, but there’s definitely a ‘talk just to be heard’ mentality out there

This post is a reminder that there are new episodes. I guess that tells me that I'm not very interested in it seeing I haven't thought to watch for the last few weeks. Just not as interesting as the first season.

It felt like experimental theater or something. Attempting to convey the contents of one's mind while undergoing a psychological breakdown.
On some level,l it's cool that they are not just making good commercial TV but instead going out on a limb and experimenting with things. This was just one experiment that didn't work so well.

I had to drop out for a few episodes - totally unbelievable turn of events in terms of character dominance etc. I was embarrassed that the writing was so bad.

But having skipped I think 2 eps I am back on board.

I love Bradley Whitfield he can do no wrong.

Honestly this place has armed guards at the super market but ZERO surveillance of the woman they are torturing in the room with the unconscious pregnant lady? It's just that things like that are so distracting. How hard would it be to write around it, like she notices the cameras pan and she can avoid them or they turn off for an hour at midnight while the system reboots or I don't know what! Something!

I also feel like this show has fallen into the dangerous trap of too many famous guest actors. It's one thing when it's just an amazing actor in an amazing/important role like Cherry Jones as June's mother because we already know that person is important. When the doctor is Gil Bellows it's like, okay, he probably didn't schlep all the way to this set to deliver a few throw away lines about heartrates. The conversation/reveal on his character would have been so much more powerful if we didn't know SOMETHING worthy of Gil Bellows was coming.

Lame. LAME. Disappointing.

i kept pausing today’s episode. WTF? A new plan, metamorphosis, for June every episode. No consistency with this show. Die already June, just die.

Did anyone else think the most recent episode is by far the worst of the series?

Instead there’s this farcical birth theater where everyone ignores reality and pretends that the wives are giving birth. June was relieved because it was one more girl who couldn’t be raised in Gilead.

It's such a weird contrast because the hospital where OfMatthew is modern/high tech and it's the same when the handmaid's are tested for pregnancy/disease, but the actual birth is so creepy and sacrificial.
