Agree! Our kids schoolmates and fellow DCPS students are their future fellow citizens. Can’t we try to make this country work instead of pretending it already does? The people who say they won’t integrate their kids (aka ‘won’t put them on the front lines’) are conservative and racist. Individually, even if they don’t understand it, and collectively clearly so, and they should not be able to ignore it. Cut the social just warrior vocabulary crap. No need for calling people snowflakes or being a wimp yourself. Step up and own the situation we are in instead of retreating into delusions. This is our kids’ future.
I am a liberal and would not be so comfortable calling out conservatives as the racists. I have encountered many racist liberals but their racism is just disguised as condescending attitudes towards race. This seems to be the two modes of racism: outright racism or condescending/patronizing racism IMO, my white persona observations. It is infuriating.
The only people that I know who say things like the above are conservatives pretending to be liberals to smear them.
In 2019, conservatives have an organized program to court racists for votes. Organized. Funded by the donors. Supported by the president. Really, that’s all that matters. Organized systemic racism in America is monopolized by conservatives.
Oh ok. I am liberal. I hate to defend conservatives but decided long ago that in DC, both liberals AND conservatives are racists. Both groups send their kids to private school under the auspices that they want what is best for their child. If they can’t afford private, they go to DCPS and either have the condescending behavior or are outwardly racist. This has been my experience. At least when I paint with a broad brush, I cover everyone but maybe I am more misanthropist than liberal?

This all sounds so comfy in elementary school but once your kids get to Wilson, just see how things play out with highly disruptive students in the school and running around Tenleytown.

+1. Also, we know there are even benefits for affluent kids when they attend more diverse schools, vs. homogeneous school environments, in terms of empathy, relating to people who are different from themselves, and preparing for a diverse workplace/world.
Also, look at the MD school threads, and the problems at some of the W schools that have very low diversity--racist incidents, vaping-related hospitalizations, suicide clusters related to intense academic pressure, etc. Some of us would rather provide our kids with adequate enrichment and supports in a more diverse school.
