We too submitted great recommendations from his chess coach, class teachers, lego teacher and a friend
I just don’t want to leave it as we all think he deserves it and he did his part. Now we need to fight for his case

I understand I might not win this case but at least we won’t feel we did not try

A lego teacher? Someone teaches kids how to play with a toy? It's possible you went a bit overboard with the recommendations. From talking to parents when my kids were in second grade, most of the people I knew didn't send any at all and their kids were accepted.

OP, did you read any of the recommendations? It's possible that the recs were not helpful to your child's application. Maybe there was information in a rec that caused the committee to be unsure about the reliability of the test scores.

The notion that this private school OP’s kid is attending actually has an AAP info session and that she knows many kids from this school that are applying makes me wonder if there some coordinated effort that includes test prep and hand picking a psychologist known for skewing scores. What is this private school?

I wonder about this also. Is it possible that FCPS is aware that this school is helping parents to put together AAP applications and takes that into account when evaluating the application packets?

Op - did you and other parents in your school uses the same psychologist?

I don’t know about all kids but 2 of them went to same doctor

The doctor referral was given by a friend whose kid was rejected when he was in fcps. They went to this doc for Wisc and appealed

And out of 3 kids ( the ones we know and share details) went to the same doc for Wisc and one got through in appeal. All his scores are slightly less than my son but still very high

They're meant to be arbitrary and give rooms for them to pick or deny certain kids if they want.

If you look at their policy statement on AAP, it's clearly stated that not one factor will be a deciding factor. This means even with perfect scores you can get rejected and even if your teacher said your child is a genius you can get rejected.

They can always come up with one thing that they don't like about a file.

I hope that you try to do whatever it takes to get your child in and you'll be successful in that, but I don't have a great hope just because.

This is how Asians feel getting rejected under 'holistic' admissions' to make rooms for athletes, AA, legacies etc. even with better academic and other achievements. Deal with it.

I brought it up as a potential reason they scouted OP’s Wisc, however. It’s the only reason I can think of. Maybe the private psych who did her Wisc has a bad reputation for “fakers”?

FCPS holds AAP information sessions, there's nothing wrong with this school having the session. Many privates in this area know that there are parents who send their kids to private and then switch to AAP because they feel k-2 in FCPS is wesk (which I agree with having had kids do k-2 in FCPS). Why would they not provide info if there is interest from parents. They might end up with younger siblings for K-2, if they are looking out for the best interest of the kids instead of just their bottom line. In this area, I'm pretty sure many privates provide this info. Let's not create controversy where there isn't necessarily any.

First of all, his current school did not do info session on how to master AAP or give pointers to doctors.

They gave a 30 minute session on what is NNAT and cogat and when the deadlines are for applying. That’s it

The doctor referral was given by a friend whose kid was rejected when he was in fcps. They went to this doc for Wisc and appealed

And out of 3 kids ( the ones we know and share details) went to the same doc for Wisc and one got through in appeal. All his scores are slightly less than my son but still very high
