I can give you some observations of other clubs if you like, though bear in mind that these are mostly limited looks from across the sidelines while watching games -- some involving VYS teams, some not (also, some travel, some All-Star, some other impressions). See if you can guess which clubs they are:

- A large club that teaches a beautiful passing style. BRYC

- A club with turbulent partnerships. FCV

- A large club with one local coaching legend, but the rest of the coaching carousel and the in-club politics seems scary. VYS

- A semi-rural club with travel teams that seem to be big, fast kids who haven't yet learned much skill. Loudoun

- A small club that keeps losing teams for some reason. CYA or CSC, I always get them mixed up

- A large club with DA teams. Almost as good as they think they are. Arlington

- A successful (non-DA) club where the coaches have struck me as friendly and professional.

- A small club that isn't competitive at early ages, but they get better, so coaches must be doing something right.

- A large-ish club with overbearing coaches who are clearly encouraging "physical" play and gamesmanship, even in House All-Stars.

- A mid-sized club with some good teams that veers toward "physical," but they have good footskills programs.

- A large club with some good teams whose parents really need to take it down a notch. PWSI

- A mid-sized club with a proud history and a partnership with DC Uni- ... oh, wait, we're merging with FC Virginia.

- A club named after its county, which is exurban and growing, so the population base can't help turning up a fair number of talented kids. Fortunately, it also has some good staff members in place. (OK, I can think of two meeting that description.) PWSI and/or Loudoun

- A boutique club that revolves around one guy with some ties to overseas clubs. (OK, maybe more than one there, too.)

Looking forward to your guesses.

I noticed that with the complimentary descriptions of clubs, other than your BRYC guess, you have no clue what club it may be. It just goes to show how nasty and negative people are in regards to even thinking about other clubs. It is as if no club is capable of doing anything right in the eyes of people.

Except that VYS isn't an abusive husband. It's a youth soccer club that has made good decisions and some bad, some good hires and some bad. There are a variety of reasons why VYS gets talked about on this board more than other clubs -- the biggest would simply have to be that DCUM includes a handful of people whose kids play or have played there. And there are a couple of people with axes to grind who've chosen to do so here rather than on ... I don't know, Fairfax Racists' Underground or the local coffee bar.

I wouldn't know, but you just sounded like the abusive husband who points out others flaws in hopes to erase his own.

And, just remember, it is your clubs 300 posts and 20+ pages of drama that are on display. I read through much of it and I can't un-see them and my opinion of your club has been negatively shaped but what are likely a few malcontents.

So, to the other poster who called me a "prick", ok, but the 21 pages of VYS dirty laundry are yours and your club's to own, not mine.

The perception is that everyone hates VYS when really it might just be a handful of lunatics that have nothing better to do than to hold a grudge.

We'll never know.

Cool you sound like a prick. Your not being here will be at least one good thing about the club.

There are 21 pages and over 300 posts dedicated to a single club's dysfunction. Sure, other clubs are not perfect either, but somehow, it doesn't bleed out into the internet. This is not a "buyer beware" situation because other club's gossip is kept at a minimum. You sound more like the abusive husband who tries to point out the supposed failings of the neighbors husband to make himself somehow look better.

2. I'm not sure how they did it, but VYS managed to hire a pretty good technical staff even with all the random firings of the Gunney era. Now that Gunney is leaving, it'll be easier to keep some stability on that staff.

And it might be a good time to simply applaud that and keep the negativity at a minimum. Let things run their course and relax.

So for all the chaos implied on this board, a lot of things are running just fine. A lot of teams are playing very good soccer. A couple thousand kids are still having very good experiences.

What's happened at the top is interesting. Quite worthy of discussion. It's not all irrational. Some of it is -- every club has THAT parent who's convinced nothing is good enough for little Landon or Mia, and VYS has the occasional former staffer or board member who comes in here slinging mud from their biased and/or totally inaccurate position.

But yes, there's been some turnover. It's a good time to talk about the direction of the club. (Hey, it's a GREAT time to run for the board if you want to put in the time and effort! The former coach/board member on this thread might not even know you, so he'll have a tougher time starting plausible rumors to smear you!)

This thread is for people to discuss VYS. If you don't like it, don't read it. And by the way, coaches won't want to come because they may be randomly fired like the ones over the winter were...

I'm just telling you how you come off to both outsiders and potential coaches, parents etc that might be interested in your club. Feel free to name names and air your dirty laundry, but understand that the image you put out is not at all positive.

You are correct, I don't have to read it, but I have, and I already have my opinion of your club and that is the point.

Well people who are interested in a club would probably appreciate knowing what they are in for BEFORE they fork over the money.

Then why do you continue to fork over money to the club yourself? Just leave if it is that dysfunctional. And from my perspective, based on these threads, personally I wouldn't want to come to the club because I wouldn't want to stand next to any of the parents on the sideline if this thread is any indication of how your club parents act.

Oh we are already leaving, but once you pay the money for the year you are stuck. Anonymous venting is not at all the same as being good sports on the sideline

oh, and since you are leaving, and still posting negative things about the club, you can add vindictive to the list as well. As the saying goes, "don't go away mad, just go away."

I actually haven't been posting my complaints on this thread. I was just defending people who want to discuss the club without being told to shut up about it.

I'm not saying they don't have a right to air their grievances. I'm not even telling them to shut up. I'm saying that they might want to shut up, that they come off sounding self indulgent, overinvolved, gossiping, and vindictive. By all means POST AWAY! For all the good it will do them/you or the club.

No, it tells me that the parents are both self indulgent, toxic and prone to gossip. Please tell me what club you are moving to so I can stay away from that club too.
