Seriously, how fat are you people? Are you the same moms that carry snacks and drinks everywhere you go? An afternoon party certainly does not require that the hosts provide a meal.

I don't care what time of day the party is... Order pizza cheapskate.
It's not a question of being able to afford it or not. Who can't afford a few pizzas? It's about saying, "ENOUGH! It's all too much!" An afternoon party from 2:30-4:00 (or, as some other PP said, anytime between 1-5) does NOT call for more food and I am not going to give in to the constant pressure for more, more, and more in this society. I am not doing it.
If you truly felt this way, you wouldn't be having a party in the first place. You are using sanctimony as a cover for being cheap and thoughtless.
Seriously, did none of you go to parties when you were a child? In the '70s and '80s? With cake, ice cream, and lemonade? Maybe koolaid? Maybe Hi-C? And play games in someone's basement, and then go home? Did none of you have or attend parties like this? Nobody?

Then offer up less and don't pretend to host a party. A party includes food, unless it's a frat party then it only includes drinks. If you're opposed to hosting a party and making your guests comfortable then don't say you throwing a party.

Even if we did, then why is that better? I like serving pizza and cake. We hosted a party last Sunday at laser tag from 2-4. They set the schedule, and it was pizza, game, cake game. Some of the kids there seemed absolutely ravenous and ate 2-3 pieces of pizza plus cake. It would have sucked it they had come that hungry, and I had no food for them. Even the parents were pretty happy there was food, and most of them had pizza and cake too. We are all running around on the weekends from activity to activity plus errands. Give everyone a break, and offer food at your party.
