It's a tough year to be a high-achieving upper-middle-class girl aiming for a top school in ED/EA, I think. But I guess we'll see.

Princeton is always the most brutal during ED ime

That sucks. Hard to get both in one day.

+1

My son told me last night that he should get his ED decision on Friday while he is away at a school event. He asked that if he doesn't get in that we not say anything at all to him. (I said it it okay to say sorry? He said no he doesn't want to hear anything from his parents) I'm really hoping for good news and wondering how to support him if it's not.

Just say like, ‘I’m really sorry this happened to you but I want you to know your father and I will still love you anyway’

I'd go with a hug and I love you and LOTS of food you know he likes. And general grace for his emotions.

Nervous for my kids’ friends. He came home and told me a bunch are waiting for UVA ED. He seemed anxious for them.

This is the case literally every year. Last year was a disaster for girls such as you described.

I understand kids tend to fixate on one "dream" school but there are so many great schools in this country. I'm sure she will have great options! But I wouldn't necessarily wish away a deferral. Last year Duke took a number of kids either RD after deferral or from the waitlist. Just do your best to get her to treat a deferral as a rejection and mentally move on. I know it's hard!

Mine is a committed athlete waiting on the official decision for ED1. She received a likely letter, an estimated merit package and a strong steer from the AO. We're still nervous waiting on a mid-December release date (no specific date, so can't even know precisely which day we need to liquor up).

^ it's the parents that kids console students say. This is after yesterday's Princeton and this week's other decisions

I was super confident that she will get in ED. But now I am losing ALL the confidence.

Also it's not about this particular school. It's that I don't feel good to watch her going through more stress in RD applications. She might not feel that way so it may be just me.

Her school counselor has been accessible all the time. And they emphasize on well beings of the students.

Maybe I should go see a counselor for parents as well.

Kids are a lot more resilient than you give them credit for. It’s a rite of passage, and this stress will be over at some point - all but a distant memory! So let her go through the RD process like all the other kids. If they can do it, yours can too. The best approach is to truly accept the fact that she will flourish wherever she lands.
