Sound very Republican right now.
The McMansioning of the White House is reflective of MAGA values.

Where is the evidence the ballroom is funded by donations? We should be able to look at treasury accounts and see where the money is collected and spent. In which account has this $200 million been deposited?
In addition, there is absolutely no way that this was competitively bid as is required by Federal Procurement rules. Can't be done in a few months.
That’s also probably why it’s a tear down. You can find any crap developer willing to tear something down and put up some quickly built flimsy thing. Finding contractors who can renovate a historic building and comply with standards for a historical renovation is much harder and takes more time. And is probably harder to do as a back scratching grift. Hence they are tearing down instead of renovating.
Yep. No ethical builder would have taken this job. Especially one who values historical properties.

So Trump & company are paying for the whole thing?
I am not seeing the outrage here. Why is anyone upset about this?
You don't care about historic preservation? You don't care about the optics (majority of people struggling right now)? You don't care about the open-air corruption? You don't care about processes that have been used by every other president in America?
What part of “privately-funded” do you fail to understand?
And how laughable of you to raise “open -air corruption,” as if going through the D.C. government permitting-process were anything but corrupt.
Why couldn't they just build a standalone ballroom on the property? Why do the desires of billionaires literally trump (pun intended) historic preservation and the integrity of one of the most prominent structures in DC?
Because he loves to piss people off and show how he doesn’t follow the rules and no one enforces them on him. It’s a giant middle finger to the US and it makes him feel powerful.
Exactly! He also thinks he has good taste…the BEST taste…
And he wants a palace like all the other dictators and kings.
