This is because Canadian Liberals have gone far off into the deep end.
I guess it is universal to blame liberals for the extremism of the far right.

Much like the first two world wars, you can blame this on Germany.
In a well-intended but flawed effort to atone for the holocaust, Merkel instituted an extremely liberal policy on refugees starting around 2014. Germany basically accepted any and all refugees who could get there, no questions asked. In response, over 1.4 million came --mostly from Iraq and Syria, as well as Afghanistan and Pakistan. Once there, Merkel allowed them to register for asylum under the Dublin Accord, and then they could effectively travel and resettle anywhere else in the European Schengen Zone.
Merkel also instituted a policy to place these 1.4 million refugees in small towns across Germany, so as to avoid creating the types of large inner city ghettos that had colored previous waves of German postwar immigration from Turkey. Unfortunately, however, it simply triggered the fear of Germans everywhere, particularly when paired with the high profile crimes these immigrants were committing in the cities.
Bottom Line: this liberal policy to condone an unchecked wave of immigration has truly set off an equal and opposite reaction. Yes, European conservatism and populism was already growing slowly, but Merkel basically supercharged that growth. Now we are seeing the consequences.
God help the world if there's another war in Europe.
