To me Lopez painted women and indigenous people as irrational, incompetent, and impulsive
-Both female lead detectives were terrible at their jobs. Couldn't figure out that a dozen random cleaning ladies stormed the station on initial investigation. Couldn't figure out the caves were under the station when they had a map. Killed or attacked the domestic violence guys in the only other cases we saw them investigate. Let the cleaning ladies go. Encouraged the coverup of the elder Prior's death
-Cop and her sister commit suicide because they see ghosts. To me it is insulting to portray that suicide is a noble death for the indigenous women and they did it twice!
-Cleaning ladies find a drill bit six years after the fact and decide storming the station and killing the ALL the scientists is the way to go without any evidence which scientists actually killed Annie
The most redeeming characters were the young male cop (killed his dad), Rose (disposed of bodies) and the bar guy.
Agreed. Women characters were all emotionally driven or nutty (Rose). Except for the mine president, who was portrayed as business-minded (of the male world).
Don't forget the mine president was corrupt and murderous.
Yes, but calculating. Not emotional and impulsive at least.
Meh. She was barely on screen for more than about 3 minutes thru the whole show. Its impossible to say if she was emotional or impulsive or not. I would hazard a guess that she was both if capable of suggesting murder.
Off camera everyone could do a 180, but the women put on the screen in front of us were flighty and/or angry and led by their emotions. Those aren't bad depictions until it's every woman and most times they're in a scene.
I take your point, but this season was preferable to the early seasons written by Taylor Sheridan where the women are victims, whores, incestuous imbeciles and dead bodies.
Pp. On the way Taylor Sheridan writes women, you and I are in agreement. Women are lusty, crazy props for men.
