What a disgrace SCOTUS has become. If there's anything we should be having congressional hearings on, it's this - followed by legislation to rein this criminal behavior in.
Hearings would be a circus. What we need is a court reform plan and for Congress to remember they are a co-equal branch of government that also happens to control the purse strings.
Hearings are only a circus because Republicans make them circuses. I think we are entitled to finding out just how deep the dirty corruption of the GOP goes. This seems like illegal coordination. Why is the GOP allowed to violate the law in letter and spirit?
I think I am starting to recognize you, PP, from your writing style and attitude.
There's not evidence any laws have been violated and the press has brought the corruption to light pretty well. I don't see how anything productive is going to come out of a fight where Supreme Court justices will refuse to appear, maintaining they are a branch of government and Congress doesn't have authority over them. And then Congress will do what?
Better for Dems to get a tight plan in place - publicly negotiate with GOP with reasonable provisions in it - and when the GOP infights and refuses to do anything, pass it at the point the Dems have a majority in both houses.
People need to give up the fantasy that Thomas is going to be removed from the bench. He's not. The most that can be done is to limit his tenure through legislation that applies to all of the federal judiciary equally.
