Love Nicole's dress (leg slit plus one sleeve plus huge floral appliqués but somehow it works?), Halle's is meh (weird floral detailing, too clingy and bare for my taste) but she, as always, looks amazing.
Berry
Nope.
This is gross and inappropriate.
Oh please why?

100%
The model that she truly is. Stunning.
Anonymous wrote:Mindy changed for the actual show? I just saw her in the audience and she's wearing black now. I never understand when people do this unless they are hosting or performing. It's bananas to change between walking the carpet and... sitting down. Even if she's presenting, it's too much. Just pick a dress. This isn't your night -- you aren't nominated.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:A favorite. Sandra Oh in Giambattista Valli. Many people cannot pull off this color so I love that she wore it (because she can) and this is a very well executed version of "Greek Goddess" rendered in something much more surprising and interesting than white or baby blue.
I know I'm a day late to this, but man I LOVE this! And I love her hair, and I love her smile.
Anonymous wrote:Another fave. Halle Bailey in Dolce. I think she wins for "best visible boning" of the night, though her competition is Mindy and Jaime Lee Curtis, so... Still, this dress is so sweet on her and the color is phenomenal. I love literally everyone who went for a giant gown in a vibrant color, it just makes me smile. That's what I'd do if for some weird reason I was invited to the Oscars and allowed to wear whatever I wanted. It's the fantasy.

I’m the Pi Phi colors poster and these are Orioles colors. You don’t see them together in fashion for a reason.

One of those people who knows her body, her face, her public image, the specific image she's selling for a particular role, and just executes it really well every single time. I am trying to think of a true red carpet "miss" from her and coming up empty. I don't love them all but she always looks gorgeous and stands out in a very specific-to-her way.
I agree with everything else you said but I think, for her, that this is a miss.
I agree. She's always stunning and elegant, but the dress just doesn't do much.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge in Dolce. I think she is among the best "bob and red lip" in the game, though Michelle Williams has also been rocking that styling for years really well.
Disagree. She has no curves, so this straight dress isn’t flattering.
She doesn't need curves. She's tall with gorgeous shoulders and striking features. Not everyone is trying to look like the same ideal. It's okay for people to look like perfect versions of themselves.
She looks like a teenage boy in a dress. There’s no real waist and she doesn’t have hips. It’s really unflattering. Her look is all forehead and flatness.
Agree to disagree. I think you just don't like her body type, which is fine, but it's not her job to make her body look different than it is. Like I don't look at a really busty actress and think "wow that dress does not sufficiently flatten her chest enough -- you can tell she has big boobs." Your body is your body.
Well said, PP. She looks beautiful here, and she’s under no obligation to look like Barbie. PP is a sad, strange little fashion victim.
?
Most people realize you must embrace your body and dress it appropriately. You play up your best features, and you strategically select styles to accent or mitigate other features. The dress was a miss. If Fashion Police was still around, I’m sure they would have said she has a terrific slender frame and a statuesque body but she should have worn something to create a waist and the illusion of curves.
You are right that's what the Fashion Police would have said. They also would have fat shamed a lot of size 8 actresses. That type of fashion criticism has been rightly criticized for constantly asking women to "hide" the natural shape of their bodies in search of an ideal that essentially doesn't exist.
You are of course entitled to your opinion, and if you don't like it, that's fine. But what we are saying is that I could care less that this dress makes her look flat chested and straight up and down. In fact, I kind of like that it does -- that is what her body looks like and it's part of her charm, IMO.
I'm laughing at this because as someone who loved ballet, that flat-chested straight look was always my goal. To this day I don't think a woman needs generous "curves" to be beautiful. We have learned to celebrate bodies that would once have been called vulgar. Why can't we celebrate bodies all along the spectrum?

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:This is, of course, very bad. But it's bad in a very specifically Florence Pugh way that maybe I've decided is fine? She loves overskirts with shorts and platform heels and weird necklines and she is weirdly consistent about it. I think I could come around on this if the colors weren't "black and dirty-sheets-beige".
What an amazing look! I so love this!
