Miranda and Erin are interchangeable. I don't like either of them at first glance. More of the same.
The child looks better and better. I don't care if he's not an APS parent. I care if he understands the system.
hahaha, love that you call him a child in one sentence and then imply that he understands "the system."
it wasn't my post but i think my children understand the system better than many adults
and would be better school board members too!
Get a grip.
Well someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed!
Some school systems have a student rep on the board. APS doesn't. I think APS could use that perspective. Kids know a lot and have great opinions.
Do you understand the difference between an student rep and an actual board member? I'm not sure you do. I do believe that your kids understand the system better than you.
Since APS doesn't have a student member, maybe the 22 year old is the next best thing.

Except many of us realize they were actually right about a lot of things. Open schools and no masks are not controversial from the viewpoint of 2023, as much as you may wish otherwise.
Duh. We are in a much different place than we were in 2021.
They bullied parents/teachers/admin and pushed for things prematurely.
Hard pass on the queen of the bullies.
All I know of MT is what I've seen on AEM. Have only ever seen her respectfully engage, answer questions even when people were piling on and ganging up (going so far as to call her racist). Even one of her fiercest detractors on there is now a supporter. Didn't have that on my 2023 bingo card.
And yet, she’s the leader of bullies. She’s worked closely with them.
Poor judgment, at best.
I remember folks in ape were ugly in those early months. But AEM was and still is full of bullies. I stick around for the crazies who never disappoint. Keep showing us who you are.
But most people look back and see how awful that was all around. A lot of people did not rise to the challenge. Some still are not. I’m willing to give MT a chance to make her case.
Does AEM have anyone running for SB? Not sure why they’re relevant here.
Somehow, many of us made it through the pandemic without trashing teachers/staff or screaming over other parents.

But MT was not one of those people. Fine you don’t like APE. Whatever. But seems unfair to
Keep holding her to account for behavior of others.
She was certainly comfortable with that behavior - she still *chose* to work closely with those people for years. At least one helped significantly with her last campaign (and is on her current website). She now says she’s “proud” of that work?
Most of Arlington has moved on. Look at the people endorsing her. Look at her opponent’s ape-light platform. I don’t know MT but seems unfair to ask her to be accountable for the worst of other parents’ behavior during the worst part of pandemic. From their newsletter and people who speak at SB meetings, ape’s tone and focus has shifted. If she had a hand in that, that sounds like leadership we need. Feel free to hold grudges for other people’s behavior, but looks like people are moving on.
I hold her accountable for her choices. No one forced her to partner with those people. She was obviously ok with their actions.
I don’t want a SB member who think it’s ok to bully teachers/admins/parents.

So are you happy to have any 22 year old on our school board? Or just one clearly interested in politics?
Being young is not qualifying on its own. Honestly.

Yikes - I completely disagree. As a former key parent (not on the executive committee or anything), I found her to be generally well-liked. This sounds like you have a personal grudge.
There's a lot in just this thread about Erin that makes me worried about her. It's not only this person who has a personal story. They can't all have grudges. I don't know anything about her, never heard of her at all and now she's a SB candidate and taking the spoils. Miranda is more experienced.
Exactly how is Miranda more experienced? She led a group of bullies and crazies that screamed at parents, school board, Duran, staff, teachers. She has never led anything constructive within APS.
I don't like some of the stuff I'm hearing about Erin either but at least she led a PTA. Sometimes you make enemies when you actually do the real work, you can't make everyone happy, some parents are crazy.

For the love of poodles, AEM is nothing but a Facebook discussion group filled with everyone. That is it - it is not an actual group. APE OTOH is a very organized group - incorporated and fundraises and has a regular newsletter, puts out press releases etc. Miranda willingly chooses to associate with the bullies and right wingers in APE.
I am sick of seeing these two conflated. Apples and potatoes.

I continue to think Miranda Turner is an excellent candidate, and I agree with PP above saying it's unfair that she is associated with the worst of APE. She has certainly put in the work though to have credible, broad, APS experience. I bet she's done more analysis, attending more school board meetings, and knows more about the system as a whole than any other candidate.
It would actually be brilliant if APE was running several candidates. Since they want to take over APS entirely and impose Youngkin on us.
Priddy only won because Symone Walker was done dirty by another candidate. Erin apparently is a Fed too. It's just a question of when someone will report her too to whatever government authority is in charge of the Hatch Act.
She also aggressively went after anyone who even slightly disagreed with her on that AEM Facebook group, so let’s not pretend like she was guaranteed the nom otherwise. You obviously enjoy making up your own facts anyway.
I can name the posters on AEM who aggressively and rabidly go after people who disagree with them and are still doing it.
The owner of the group also created a fake account back in 2020/2021 and posted under it for months until someone finally called out the fake account on AEM after it was first exposed here.
So to sum up, any single person running for school board that has the backing of people defending AEM are horrible candidates and who associate with nasty self righteous people.
What? You are saying that the founder of AEM created a fake account? This is quite an accusation. Do you have any actual proof of this?
At one point I had a screen shot of the thread from the post on AEM but deleted it bc the entertainment value had wore off
