+1. I think what is very troubling to us as progressives is that we have spent the past two years pushing back on threats to democracy. Then to only have it show up in our neighborhood is very jarring. When elected officials seek to silence legitimate political speech, especially that which they do not agree with, we slip further into the abyss. Neighbors are right to be upset with the photo an nonapology apology. I for one do not see how this group can continue to serve as leaders in our community and I would, regrettably, ask them to step aside for the good of everyone.
Agreed. The fact that one of these commissioners is also a college professor is even more disturbing. When I was at university our professors encouraged us to debate them. They gave us space and grace to express unpopular options. We were required to think critically. I fear this is no longer the case.

The Mayor made a decision that was supported by both the current and future councilmember. Budget has already been allocated to it. Getting a ANC commissioner to resign or be recalled won't reverse the decision.
THAT is weird and divorced from reality.
Recalling ANC commissioners would be because those in the photo have demonstrated that they don’t have the maturity or temperament for public service. These are people that have directly communicated that they will abuse any minuscule level of power that they are afforded. These people are not fit for office. Plain and simple.
Removing them from office won't change the Mayor's decision.
But it will give opponents something to do and crow about while not affecting the actual work of building the bike lanes. It would be a good shiny new toy that they could focus on.

Seriously, nothing will be good enough. It is bad enough that you all take on a miltiant stance against a green form of transportation in an era where educated people are trying to reduce greenhouse gases and provide safer alternatives to driving cars everywhere, but then these people apologized and you don't accept the apology.
Move on. The bike lanes are happening and your fighting a decision that has already been made is degrading the social fabric. They are mad because you want them to kill themselves trying to get to a store. How about YOU act gracefully, accept the decision that has been made and work to make the renovation of the Connecticut Avenue as safe and efficient for all users as possible.
Look in the mirror, you started this by disregarding the will of the people in the community and taking a stance that imposes the will of the minority of the people on to the majority.
If it was really that important, you would have run for ANC yourself or made sure that others who agreed with you put in for these races. But you didn't because you know that those candidates would have lost.
This is just so odd and divorced from any semblance of reality.
