My student did not write the optional essay and was accepted with merit. She did, however, also apply for the honors college, which had 2 essays on its application.

Yes, dtgr accepted OOS
Clemson:
OOS, no hooks, 1340 SAT, 3.72 unweighted, 1 AP, NMSF. DD only did two extracurriculars, but did them all four years and had a leadership role in both.
1340 SAT NMSF??

Congrats!

DD accepted OOS EA Business 1500 SATs 4.8 unweighted GPA plus 7APs & 2DE. Offered scholarship money tba in March.
Congrats to your kid. Curious, how does one have an unweighted GPA over 4.0? Do you mean 4.8 weighted or 3.8 unweighted? Thanks.

Congratulations!
My child has also had a challenging high school experience and so far been accepted to three "lesser" colleges that are safeties for her. But she really loves one of them and may ultimately choose it over better-known/higher-ranked schools once all the decisions are in. I'm really happy that she's found a place she loves, with a strong program for her interest, that we can afford. Whether or not the neighbors are impressed with a bumper sticker is irrelevant.
