Nooo! Really? I thought the one redeeming feature of the show was that they would just pretend the Testaments never happened and wrap it up differently. I usually love Margaret Atwood but The Testaments was bad. It was like Young Adult sci fi or something.

I feel like a lot of things in the show are playing out that way. Flashback to Serena and June sharing a smile during the cringy part of the birth. What? Angry Canadians who suddenly hate well educated and capable American refugees feeling from a violent and oppressive neighbor. What? Joseph is suddenly all powerful and coming up with a new little island where people who don't want to actually follow the rules of Gilead and chill with other people from Gilead. Ok. Not to mention the ridiculousness of the rescue operation.
Just bad writing all around.

I'm slightly less bothered by the rest except for Hannah WRITING her name. She was 4 when she was taken from June in a very traumatic way. I guess maybe seeing June a few years later jolted her memory, but still.
And yes, the rescue plan involved three planes? What kind of freaking rescue plan is that? And the Americans should know exactly what Gilead's capabilities are? It's stolen American equipment! Gah.

Margaret Atwood wrote a sequel a few years ago, I think around season three. I think it takes place around 15 years after the original Handmaid’s Tale book, so after season one. A few characters are the same, and a few are almost definitely known who they are supposed to be, even if they don’t name names exactly.

Yeah, I also mentioned upthread that I wish this was the last season. I’m just watching to get through it at this point. I was obsessed seasons 1-3. Season 4 on has been kind of boring.

Yeah, I still want to know what happens so I read recaps. But I don’t watch it because the implausibility is irritating and I think they’ve made so many of the characters flip flop about that I don’t really believe them any more.

This. And June has spent more time with Hannah in the last 6 months than with Nichole.

Yeah, but she was being held in a glass cage by the Eyes, who likely told her it was June’s fault. That’s scary.
