I'm not the poster you are referring to, but at our center there are levels for some classes, especially math. So the kids don't have to be "full of themselves" to know that there is a more advanced group and a not as advanced group. Some kids also go to after school help sessions with the teachers, etc. The kids talk about these things amongst themselves because they are a part of their daily lives.

Thanks! It's frustrating that the counry hasn't published any hard data on the success rates on appeal since 2004.

We included the WISC scores, the AAP report from school based GT from 1st grade, and a letter of recommendation from an adult who worked closely with my child in outside activities. I had other letters but I decided not to include them. Good luck!!

I really doubt that 13:08's child is unsure of herself. Just the opposite. The whole family needs therapy.

It's not on her radar, which is full of more important things, like natural selection and the mechanics of heredity. Maybe your child is measuring other children because she's unsure of herself.

13:08 - You say "I didn't say I'm happy that the children talk about these things", but in the immediately preceding sentence you say "I am happy to listen" to your DD when she heads on down that path. Plus, you are posting comments on these threads about the kids sizing each other up (or more accurately, parents sizing up the other AAP kids).

Really 13:08, where do you think she gets it from??

FWIW, our DD qualified with two exceptional scores, but I told her NOT to share that with others. It's no one else's business, plus as a practical matter, a person looks pretty silly bragging about some accomplishment when there is always someone else who is just as accomplished, or even more so, than the braggart.

11:18 we did not include anyhting else in the packet except for the new WISC score. My dd daughter grades were very similiar this semester as last so we did not think it would make a difference. Sending good thoughts to you on your appeal.

13:00 - you sound like you have your head in the sand. My DC tells me everything that goes on at school, because she wants to, and I am happy to listen. I didn't say I'm happy that the children talk about these things... just that it's a reality. Haven't you read other posts where the children are asking each other about going to the centers?

WISC is much better evaluation than subjective GBRS IMO.

I hope we are not in the same school as 12:28's little genius. I can't imagine at age 8 comparing notes about who is more advanced than whom, as if it's a competition. I thought the purposes of the AAP is to provide SERVICES to those who need them, not for parents or kids to pat themselves on the back for how "smart" they are. Sheesh.

I didn't say that my DC 'understands giftedness'. I said that she can tell which children are at her level (say math) and which are below. I wasn't looking for your opinion on what my child understands... I think I am the best judge of that.
