No, the Twitter epidemiologists and doctors who built their social media profiles off of Covid hysteria. They fear losing relevancy and have a vested interest in pushing doom and gloom.

Right, Covid is no big deal despite killing mil, ions around the world. Must be nice to have your privilege.

It was reported that Maryland has crossed the 14,000 deaths from COVID benchmark recently. It did make me pause because it seems like a very low number relative to what we went through in the last two years. There are more than 6,000,000 Marylanders, and the 14k deaths were heavily concentrated among the elderly with health issues. I'm sure a decent percentage would have likely died by now from something else had they never gotten infected from COVID.

When I see the cold hard numbers in front of me, it does make me realize how much of what we went through in the last two years was driven by little more than hysteria and fear far more than what was needed. We'd have been much better off with a very different approach to COVID targeted to the high risk demographics.

This. Also compare the numbers to other causes of death. Can you imagine how much better off if we had instead focused on reducing obesity across the country?

Are you crazy? Do you know how many more people would have died if we had just let it rip? Not to mention collateral damage from hospitals being constantly overwhelmed. The numbers you are looking at resulted from the policy you’re pooh poohing.

It was clear as day by May 2020 that we needed to focus on locking down nursing homes and that the old/ill needed protection—so they should have stayed home and worn N95s when out and the rest of us (especially kids) should have lived life normallly.

THIS. It was very obvious from the cruise ships in spring 2020 that this mainly affects the elderly.

And the obese. My SIL works in a hospital that had an early COVID patient who was young 20s, and the media went wild. She said that what they weren't mentioning was that he was about 500lbs. We know and have known for years now who is at high risk. Nothing has changed.

Oh I'm sure the media described him as a "healthy" man in his 20s.

It has nothing to do with being restless.

Wearing a cloth mask is ineffective and if you are in an N95 you are protected.

Stupid comment.

It’s stupid to acknowledge when a COVID precaution is ineffective? It’s like the covid crowd can only resort to name calling now.

Not meant to name call, it’s meant to say that the comment is stupid. Just like when one covers their nose and mouth to sneeze-to block it. You want to argue that too?

Thankfully, there are a lot of tools for anyone who is at high risk to protect themselves (masks and access to test results and antivirals). Hopefully, with the increased availability of Paxlovid and other treatments, those who are immunocompromised should not need to worry about people being unmasked around them.

where are all these antivirals and how do I get easy access to them?

DP, but if you get COVID, contact your doctor and have them prescribed. My mom is severely immunocompromised and her PCP’s office called around and found Paxlovid for her when she tested positive. I had to schlep an hour a way to pick it up, but it was well worth the trip. She had an extremely mild case and with her diagnosis, COVID can carry a very, very high mortality rate.

14,000 includes the unvaccinated. Only about 1400 vaccinated individuals have died from covid in Maryland.

"only?"

It is an only. Just as many people die from other causes and we aren’t talking about it or taking active measures to fight it.

As for me, I'm never doing any of this again, and I will actively fight it next time. I put up with this shit last time even though I disagreed with it, but this is stupid. Seriously I never thought I would find myself agreeing with republicans but here we are.

I don't think restrictions will happen though, bc politics....we have elections in november lol.

Why are some people so obsessed with being anti mask? Seriously- what’s the big deal about covering your goddamn mouth and nose during a pandemic in a public indoor space like a grocery store? Go about living your personal life as you please, see people indoors, risk getting covid or whatever you want, but what is the big deal about having some decency in a public, non social place like a supermarket where everyone - those who don’t care about covid, those who are being careful, the immunocompromised, the pregnant woman, the elderly, or the parent with a vaccine ineligible kid in tow- must shop?

Because I do not need to adapt to your mental health problems. I don't care about your anxiety and nerosis.

If you are in such a medically fragile state that you can't handle thr sniffles then you need to stay in your hyperbaric chamber. Not. My. Problem. Get some SSRIs.

Again! Another dcum poster who throws out the “mental health” comeback when they disagree! I don’t care about the topic, just shut up with the stale and stupid insult.

NP. I have been dealing with death, stroke, cancer, heart attack, gender identity issues, severe mental health problems in my own immediate family for the past few years, with everyone turning to me to be the ‘strong one’. I don’t have the bandwidth to deal with other people’s mental health issues outside my own family. And I know I’m not alone. When the inane, constantly changing rules due to this panic make it 10X harder to get ANYTHING done, it complicates things 20-fold.

PP, that's messed up view.

Pandemics are like wildfires for people. And, similar to wildfires, trying to prevent or stop them disrupts the natural balance of life.

“Fire removes low-growing underbrush, cleans the forest floor of debris, opens it up to sunlight, and nourishes the soil. Reducing this competition for nutrients allows established trees to grow stronger and healthier. History teaches us that hundreds of years ago forests had fewer, yet larger, healthier trees.“

Plus you get that sweet, sweet Social Security cash, amirite
