The order doesn’t limit placing extra restrictions on unmasked kids. You want to forego masks? Fine. But be ready for consequences.

They should be informed of the consequences associated with not wearing a mask and yes, segregating unmasked students away from masked students is legal way to protect students who have medical conditions that make them at risk of severe illness. If you have an underlying medical condition, you cannot change that. Not wearing a mask is not a condition that can't be changed unless you have medical documentation that you can't wear a mask.

This. I think informing is fine, but there are so many consequences of not masking that I have a hard time feeling any sympathy if anyone starts whining "oh but I didn't know there would be a consequence IN SCHOOL for not masking." What has been the consequence so far?

I really think this will all be a non-issue though. APS is still requiring masks and republicans understand that local governing entities have the final say in local issues. Isn't that what they've been arguing?

I assure you as someone much more in the middle on nearly all pandemic issues and who thinks that most people here on both sides of the issues are nuts and don’t speak for me or most people I know, I’ll tell you that continuing to suggest that people who get COVID are the “others” who aren’t doing everything right like you and your friends is a bad idea. It increases animosity and makes people less willing to test and disclose, which is something I know you support. It’s amazing we’re still having to say this two years into this thing.

He ran on bringing excellence back to education - more charter schools and a no-CRT (although I don't think anyone can point to where a school district has been systemically teaching CRT) curriculum. On the campaign he was against vaccine mandates. As for masks in schools, he said he would let localities decide. He didn't start talking about opt-outs until last week.

If we are going to roll the dice and let it rip, then we need to not punish the kids who had no choice.

If schools systems cannot require students to wear masks, suspending all non-essential school activities, such as athletics and extra-curriculars, makes sense. I was complete opposed to APS’s suspension of those activities after winter break, but going forward it may be the only choice thanks to Governor Trumpkin.
