She said they weren't vaccinated because she wasn't sure it was safe. I gave her an earful. She said she would consider if when they got some spare cash.
That's right. She didn't know it was free to get vaccinated.
You can blame my friend for her ignorance. I'm sure most of you would. I blame myself for not reaching out sooner. But mostly I blame our community for being so siloed that some people never even get the information they need. This is a woman whose eyesight is failing. She doesn't own a computer. She lives in an apartment complex with hundreds of people and apparently no one even bothered to do outreach to them. The pharmacy within walking distance doesn't do vaccines. Etc.
I'm driving her to a vaccination site this weekend. But this breaks me. How are we failing so many Americans like this? I get the reopener's perspective: they just want people like my friend to disappear.
Oh FFS.
Wow. This is the silliest take in a thread full of bad takes (on both sides). You win (I guess?)
To clarify, the disappearing friend = open schools PP.
Exactly 4 kids ages 0-9 died in Maryland since March 2020. Even if the reopeners wanted anyone to disappear, practically speaking it is not going to happen. We are just flattening out with the omicron wave and slowing down with hospital admissions. There are a total of 60 kids hospitalized in the entire state, and only 12 of them are in the ICU.
Well, as long as kids who are 0-9 don't mind being orphaned I guess they will be fine.
The rate of death during this wave is a lot smaller than any previous wave. In addition, the majority of hospitalized are unvaccinated. But I know that you don’t care about facts. You are impervious to new information, kinda like the “the election was stolen” crowd.

Btw, before the xenophobic anti-immigrants chime in: her family has been in the US longer than yours.
she doesn't have a tv or radio? Or go to church or have other friends/family who could tell her that it's free?
