Frankly, the camera's are fairly obvious because they have small spot lights on them that come on when motion is sensed, so I suspect that some the frequent dog walkers may have noticed them and they serve as a deterrent.

Why is it such a big problem? I started doing it after I realized one day after a long hike that I'd accidentally dropped one of the bags I was carrying and then had to double back to try to find it.
Your response answers your own question. What if you don’t find it? Why do you think other people want to see gross, smelly poop bags on their hike or walk?!

Why would you drop it - serious question? Why bother bagging it in the first place then?

Ugh, gross. Just take it with you to the nearest trash can. What is so hard about that??

People forget.
Just take and carry the dog poop bag with you. Don't get an animal if you don't want to do the work.
Am I missing something? The first pp said they have dropped them but went back, picked it back up and continued home. What’s gross about doing that?
To the op, I would guess it’s been dropped, unless it’s the same type of bag done several times.
Why are you dropping bags of poop? No. Carry it with you until you find an appropriate place to dispose of it. This is not hard.
In our neighborhood everyone who walks their dogs and do a full neighborhood loop will drop the bags and pick them up upon return. It’s only an issue if they don’t ever pick them up going back. A bag of dog poop on the edge of your property for 30 minutes is a big deal?
