Agree. Whitman's results from last year are much better than Wilson's if you're coming UMC to UMC. Wilson's were just not good at all. I'm not sure what happened. Walls' were much better too.

And what is “good” in your elitist mind? Do you realize it was a shitshow everywhere last year? And news flash - you are not a loser if you don’t go to an Ivy or a public like Michigan, Berkeley, UVA and such. I weep for your children, I’m sure you’ve totally messed them up.

You need to chill the heck out. No where did I say that I expect or want my kids to attend top schools. I could actually care less about Ivies or similar.
I'm simply stating the facts. Up thread someone posted that Wilson grads go to "X, Y and Z top schools". The fact is that this really didn't happen last year. No where did I say that this was a shame, a problem or something that will derail the plans I have for my kids.
The FACT is that Whitman and Walls UMC kids--as a population--went to much better schools than UMC kids from Wilson did last year. Personally I would be happy as a clam with Wisconsin.

What if a student wants to be near relatives out of state? What if an ultra competitive environment is bad for their mental health? What if their family needs financial aid to make college happen? There are plenty of situations that are private and between the student and their family. I get that everyone wants what is best for their own kid. We do too. But critiquing the perceived value of students’ choices most of whom are complete strangers to the critics here, is inappropriate, harsh, and unnecessary. Focus on your own child.

The take away from that thread is what hurts Wilson kids is the amount of attention paid to struggling kids and the lack of counselors to motivate and guide the high achieving kids.

My advice -with a Sophmore and Junior is to talk to a college counselor during their freshman year. Insane, right? But, they will provided guidance on what your kid needs to do based on their scores/transcripts/goals. It gave me the motivation to fight hard for my kids to be put in the right AP Classes. Or rather the motivation to get my kids to do it - which they do. I figure they will be old pros at working the system by the time to get to college.
