$1100 a month may be more affordable than some PK programs in DC but be careful listing things like that as “very affordable” to people that may not be able to afford it. DCUM should be more cognizant of posters that may not be in the same income bracket as you.

I should know this, but does Lee East End give a preference in the following lottery year for Lee Brookland? (I'm pretty sure Stokes EE does that for their Brookland campus) So if you got in and could handle the commute for a year then you could potentially transfer.

Other ideas close to you likely with shorter lists are Bridges, Bethune and Langley. DCPS does preschool really well.

If you really want Montessori and are up for a commute, Lee East End may have a shorter list than Brookland. Breakthrough moved this year so their list may move quicker as well. I'd also look at Sela, Burroughs, Bunker Hill and Friendship Armstrong if you haven't already.

I think leaving is the right thing. No school is perfect but SSMA is really and truly terrible. Good luck at your new school and I hope your child enjoys it!

OP here. Just submitted a post-lotto app and got #1 and Bunker Hill, and numbers 3,4, and 5 at the Friendship campuses. Looks like I will be bailing and hoping it's the right call. Thanks friends!

Hi neighbor - Burroughs parent here! I would call over to see how long their PK3 waitlist is at this point and potentially throw in a post-lottery application. PK3 is not on the short waitlist but it's not as long as some of the other schools that were mentioned earlier.
