Let the kids just figure it out.

More reason to let the kids do the booking, but a gentle nudge/reminer to not procrastinate would be helpful to avoid the high tix prices.

I’m all for letting them figure it out. However, agree with PP that it makes no sense to pay 3X as much, or be stressed out because everything is booked, esp when all parents want their kids home for Thanksgiving. The issue usually is that they’re not always sure when their last class is just yet. FWIW- I don’t really consider college kids actual adults yet. And, I forget to book things in a timely manner too, so love when someone reminds me.

And the "quaint" is ridiculous because those of us with kids in Philly have them sometimes take Megabus or the equivalent and sometimes Amtrak (which is expensive if you don't book ahead). If you leave this to your kid, you are just paying 3X as much and not teaching them good skills. Nothing antiquated about shopping smart.

Again, I was really grateful for the reminder. My kid's freshman year in Philly, we didn't know to book until October and, in addition to paying more, the train was not a regular Amtrak train but a converted MARC train that they use for the holidays, which was crazy uncomfortable and had no bathrooms, as I recall. And I'd never book a bus for Thanksgiving after hearing friends spend 7 hours on 95 to get from Capitol Hill to Wilmington.
