Weird and interesting story. We haven't heard much about the condition of the bodies, but google the Cameroon carbon monoxide cloud, a cloud of CO2 that escaped from a lake and killed thousands, including people, animals, even insects. It does say that people were bloody and covered in vomit, and it seems the news articles would have included this if it were the case with this family.

DP. It makes the most sense from what I understand are the facts. Nearly instantaneous and painless death for all of them. Articles have stated that there were no other dead animals found nearby - but maybe the animals avoided the area or were avoiding the heat at that moment.

Land surveyors in the 1800s didn’t have a lot to go on and no way to really spread the word about dangerous natural areas of landscape. A forboding name is used many times to warn off trespassers.

On top of that the police was originally investigating whether not pockets of toxic gas had leeched out from underground caves in the area and killed them. A natural phenomenon which would have been attributed ‘religious’ significance when naming something ‘Devil’.


Not to mention that areas with religious significance to Native Californians often got the "devil's" name because of pure prejudice. E.g., Mount Diablo. Named that because it was sacred to the local inhabitants, not because there were demons running around.

Including the baby that DCUM insists would be unaffected? Also both parents were extremely healthy.

There was an incident in CA where a father and daughters were camping in 2018 and found dead. But it was abundantly clear what happened - he was shot by a homeless guy (who called himself a survivalist) robbing the camp sites.
