The community I teach in (in VA) has made it clear that the school will only go remote if our local health department reports that there is a shortage of hospital beds. I think that is completely sensible.

I'm also just fine wearing a mask indoors and so are the students. We're all good at it by this point. If it helps to keep us in person - I'm all for it.

I am crossing my fingers that as many as possible get vaccinated and stay healthy - I hated teaching online.

Community spread is going to go up because kids are part of the community and in numerous states - they are overwhelming hospital pediatric wards.

All those schools didn't mask their kids and didn't Texas governor banned masking at all schools?

My nieces and nephews go to school in TX. Their school requires masking. All three (plus parents) are now positive one week in. Their parents are vaxxed and my 12 yo nephew is vaxxed but also positive. Seems like Delta is spreading to the vaxxed and unvaxxed and masking is helping much. The good news is only one of the kids’ plus my sister, has been mildly sick. The others are asymptotic.

This is the most important part of your story.

This exactly. We lived in TX for a few years. My only friends there who are freaking out are teachers. A few others just stopped posting anything. Everyone else is out living like it’s 2019–big parties, travel, dining, etc.

Why weren’t the ICUs in the DMV filled in the spring when school was open four days per week? Why is the moving average of deaths zero despite the uptick in cases?

These threads are ridiculous. I’m going to stop looking and come back once the child vaccines are approved. I can’t wait to see all the posters like OP and the new but predictable posts about why schools can’t be open after kids are vaccinated.

Perhaps the reason why Texas is ordering morgue trucks...

Actually they ordered morgue trucks instead of vaccines.

This is going to be the DMV in about two weeks.

Yes we’re just like Mississippi… give me a break

No, people shouldn’t be doing those things. That’s the whole problem. The people doing those things are making going back to school extremely dangerous.

Sorry, but as we saw over the summer, people should do those things. They can be done safely. And they do not impact schools or children.

Disingenuous, OP. We are masking and 70% of our adults are vaccinated. Can you say the same of Conroe?
