The white-rimmed ones are the traditional Defender wheels. You can do a search of Defenders from the past 50 or so years, and its predecessors the Series. Most wheels were either painted the body color, or they were white.
Traditional defenders also had front and rear live-axles, and the suspension articulation and off-road capabilities that came from them.
The new “Defender” (or better yet, the Surrender) is just independent suspension front and rear. ZERO axle articulation, with the traction control system being used to make up for it when it lifts a wheel off the terrain. Pathetic.
But hey, it’s still got the traditional white painted wheels.![]()
