There is particular style of football common to countries that speak Romance languages. If you watch Italy play Spain and think that they're the same, what can I say? You're dumb.
Messi has Spanish ancestry. The Spanish are Latin people. Messi is the #1 soccer player in the world. I am by no means a fan of his though.
How can you not be a fan of Messi for chrissakes?? Even if you hate Barcelona? I can't effing stand Ronaldo, but I can say he is a phenomenal player and one of the hardest working out there.

Big difference between “Latin” and “Latin American.”
Latin nations (which include countries from Europe and South America) have indeed excelled at soccer.
I’m not sure there will ever be a clear explanation as to why. I suspect that many of these countries are in a sweet spot where soccer is part of the Latin culture, the climate is decent for year round play, and physically the phenotype for most Latin players is a ideal for soccer. Small differences around the edges might make the difference like we’ve seen between Latin versus other teams.
