This and I am bewildered as to why the city and the school board STILL have not required city and school employees to be vaccinated, LIKE EVERYWHERE ELSE. Yes, I live in Alexandria for over 20 years and I’m a Democrat but the politics here have gone in a downward spiral (the vaccine equity, the Hutchings’ many anti parent tirades, bike lanes, guaranteed income program, etc). Wilson would go to the opening of an envelope if it meant he got his name in the paper. But the refusal of the city to require employees to get vaccinated (when Northam already required state employees) or Hutchings to refuse to require it of school employees just seems beyond strange, illogical and unsafe.

If all the kids have to wear masks (which I support) then all the adults working there need to be vaccinated. Seriously, WTH?!

Everywhere else? I know Fairfax County hasn’t done this yet. My DW works there.

Imagine an unvaccinated asymptomatic teacher wearing a surgical mask and working with unvaccinated kiddos around a small reading group table for several days in a row. Is this a good idea?

Even Kansas City's school district is requiring vaccinations or weekly testing for all staff.

I have accepted there will be cases - kids have not been living like hermits for some time and have been playing sports, traveling, eating indoors at restaurants, and seeing relatives. It is inevitable that there will be cases and possibly outbreaks.

But I appreciated OP posting the information. OP was highlighting that this isn't an auspicious start given that staff are not required to be vaccinated and there is no screening to catch presymptomatic individuals before they spend days sharing airspace in a classroom. The science is still out on whether kids spread Delta to other kids more than with the original strain, but we do know that Delta is significantly more transmissible and ACPS should not be heading into the new school year taking fewer precautions than in the spring (in the spring there was physical distancing and smaller cohorts).
