These Irish names are interesting-- would you still use it if it were spelled Sirsha or Seersha? I think the spelling intrigues moms-to-be more than the sound of the name sometimes.

In your area, are there more Siobhans than Shavonne? Or Chavonne? Shivon? Any Eefuhs? My guess is more people choose the Irish spellings, despite the fact that they make no sense to the typical American, just because it looks cool on paper.

I guess CeCe could be a nickname, but would be kind of weird since the name doesn't actually start with "C". And spelling it with an S (SiSi) is just a no.

I’m the DMV poster with a hard to pronounce name. It gets mangled all the time, I’m sure you would mispronounce it too- and that’s ok! Most people do and then really try to say hit right. OP thinks most people will know how to pronounce Saoirse and that’s not the case, even in the most metropolitan areas most people won’t know how to pronounce it. Sure, her circle will learn it and so will her teachers.

I have a mental block with Irish names. The order of vowels just puzzles me every time I try to pronounce them if I am reading them.

Anyway, if you plan on moving to Ireland, you should definitely use the name. If you aren’t, you need to be ok with people getting confused about spelling/pronunciation

Yep. Much like Orla, it sounds lovely when an Irish person says it. It's kind of between Sir- and Seer-. Orla is soft and beautiful when said with an Irish accent, but I can hear an American making it all hard and clunky.

Nobody said it's an ugly name. People are saying OP's assumption that everyone has heard it and knows how to pronounce it is incorrect. Because it is.
