It's fine-- even if you don't agree, it's 7th grade, not kindergarten. Yeah, it's not entirely accurate, but maybe as a teacher who works in a school, guns may be a source of worry and frustration for this teacher.

the US is the only country where enough of the crazy people have both guns and a proclivity to shooting up schools that lockdown drills are a necessity. Canada can pretend that it has similar problems, but no other country can match Sandy Hook (maybe Dunblane, but that resulted in legislation strong enough to prevent a recurrence)

Maybe the teacher is fine with firearm ownership, but not in the case of the mentally ill? Are you seriously in denial about the fact that the wrong people are getting guns?

Are you OK with teaching her about blacks being responsible for the vast majority of violent crime in this country, despite being a minority population?
